The discount is forever and not 12 months. Right? Pretty cool to have one, that is like beginning of OVH SG servers.

Why OVH charging only 7% GST?
I thought it's 18% GST for Hosting business.

How much do you charging @leapswitch ?

    Hello @BingoBongo
GST is charged based on your residential location. If you are from India a 18% GST rate will apply. 10% GST if you are Australian, ect..

    Hello @mrclown
The newly launch Indian hosted Advance-1 server has (currently at 68 USD):

    • Public outgoing bandwidth: 1Gbps with a 25TB traffic quota per month
    • Public incoming bandwidth : 1Gbps unmetered
    • Private bandwidth: 1Gbps unmetered (An isolated private network to connect all your OVHcloud services together, across all OVHcloud datacentres.)

@OVH_APAC please get a direct peering with AWS in Mumbai the way you do in SIN (in SIN you do it via Equinix Exchange).

AWS and you are both present at DE-CIX Mumbai. Please try to connect there (and maybe upgrade your port there).

The current route via Tata (OVH Mumbai to AWS Mumbai 170ms, while OVH SIN to AWS Mumbai is ~70ms) is unbearable.

For other feedback regarding Mumbai: ordering process went smooth, server delivered in about 10 minutes.

Thank you for the feedbacks @OhJohn , we are looking after these network/latency issues and will keep you/the community updated.
I'm glad to hear the purchasing process went smoothly and that you got your server delivered within minutes.

    Thanked by 2OhJohn greentea
  • Looking forward to see more monster bench or yabs for asia. I noticed number of countries in Asia have very high latency.

  • Are Indian allowed to pay Indian Datacenter in USD , EUR or GBP as per FERA?

    Hello @OhJohn ,
We have fixed the latency on
    https://bom1-ynm1.smokeping.ovh.net/smokeping?target=APAC.AS16509-ap-south-1

I will communicate shortly on LET to provide a process to send traceroute to our network team if you have other latency issues that require improvements. Thanks

@OVH_APAC Thank you! Thats a working connection now to AWS Mumbai.

( @MikeA : see, it works, OVH is open to communication about network problems in new DC locations )

    @leapswitch : you still win - even if it's now by 0.3ms.

You may want to correct the UI pages then. It shows the GST as 7% even if the amount being added is correct (18%).

If you are an Indian and you pay to an Indian Datacenter in USD or EUR using a credit card, that is NOT ALLOWED as per the foreign exchange regulation act of government of india. The liability of such a default lies with the Indian person paying in USD.

So be careful or educate me different

No matter where the datacenter is located, you are paying to the company and their location is what matters. If they operates a legal entity in India they could charge you in INR else its normal.

This is with a signed-in account with the address as India. The rate is already correct (67.99 * 0.18 = 12.24), it's just showing as 7 rather than 18.

If they charging Indian GST to Indian customers, doesn't that mean they are an registered Indian Entity in Indian GST Authority and they will be providing GST Invoice to Indian GST Registered buyers?

Else if they are located in CA or UK or FR, why are they taking 18% GST in the invoice?

Here is their exact statement in invoice "Customer liable to pay GST under reverse charge basis and HEBERGEMENT OVH INC. will not be liable for payment of GST."

So Indian buyers of the OVH server registered with GST, your cost is $68+18%=$81. Make sure you pay Government of India 18% reverse charge on $81

This is confirmed with the Indian Tax Authority.

The GST registered Indian buyer has to pay 18% reverse charge with no ITC.

OVH is filing GSTR 5A as a non-resident OIDAR service provider. They are NOT supposed to charge 18% GST on GST registered Indian buyer. Only report the sale in GST5A. The GST registered Indian buyer is liable to pay 18% reverse charge to GST irrespective of what the non-resident OIDAR service provider does in their invoice!

So essentially non-resident OIDAR service provider OVH is increased it's sale price to GST registered Indian buyer by 18% to USD $81

How it work for personal purchases?

If you mean for Indian UnRegistered Buyer, the cost is $81. If you had bought the same server at $68 for any other non-resident service provider, it would be $68.

So essentially for Indian Client the price of $68 is fake

I'm told where a seller charges Indian GST but doesnot deposit it, there is a 100% penalty with 1year to 5year jail term under Indian law irrespective of nationality.

If any Registered Buyer were to show current OVH invoice to department, OVH would be liable as above (OVH is charging GST and then telling buyer "Customer liable to pay GST under reverse charge basis and HEBERGEMENT OVH INC. will not be liable for payment of GST" meaning GST charged by OVH is not being used to discharge the liability and customer should discharge the liability) .

@OVH_APAC - please refund the GST charged to Registered Buyers asap

    Thanked by 1Saahib

All laws has some kind of practicality, it just doesn't make sense for customer to pay GST separately unless their are some conditions met. If OVH has no registered subsidiary in India yet selling Goods/ Service then RCM (Reverse charge mechanism) is applicable. But then it doesn't make sense them for charging 18% GST themselves. Moreover, they are charging GST on other locations if you are Indian as per their records.

I think @OVH_APAC should provide explanation here, specially about the statement Customer liable to pay GST under reverse charge basis and HEBERGEMENT OVH INC. will not be liable for payment of GST but also charging GST to customer.

@OVH_APAC can you please clarify if you are an Indian registered entity? If not then why you are collecting extra %18 for GST!??

And will you refund the GST you collecting if you are not an Indian registered entity??

We can't open a support ticket on OVH's website directly as the whole world knows that OVH has the worst UI and worst customer support. Even a Nigerian prince provides better support than OVH
