    Time dilates, so it may seem to be alive for centuries in an inner layer dream while the physical reality is still progressing at realtime.

    Interestingly research says time passes very slowly for small animals with shorter lifespans. They have extremely fast reaction time aka reflexes which also help them escape predators. The world is in a perpetual slow motion to them.
