LF Recommendatios - Linux Seedbox

Hi LET,

I'm looking for recommendations of vps/dedi service to use as a seedbox. The main objective is to seed around 30~40TB/month (keep in mind this is just upload), and get some reputation on a private tracker so I can get an invite for myself (currently borrowing a friends' account). Every type of content should be seeded through there, including movies, series, e-books, training videos, porn, etc (I usually go for high demand torrents with a lot of leechers)

I would prefer normal linux server where I can install my own stuff through SSH. KVM/Xen or similiar preferably. 4vCPU should be more then enough, as well as 4 GB RAM. For Disk space, I would prefer something around 5~6TB storage or more (with an alternative to expand it maybe? ). Since I'm aiming for 30~40TB/month traffic, gigabit speeds are required, as we as a high amount of monthly traffic bandwidth (maybe unmetered, or something that would decrease to lower speeds after 30TB? )
A single static ipv4 would be interesting, and around the Netherlands would be great as well (but open to other locations).

My budget is around 50~60 eurs/month.

PS: I saw some dedi servers on hertzner with a price that were looking too good to be true. Are they a good provider?

Thanks in advance

Yes, they are good for seedboxes. Network is sort of average, go for FSN location to get the best network they have. Probably the best quality network you'll get without paying a huge ton for bandwidth tbh.

Some will point out that Hetzner does not have "true" unlimited bandwidth, however this is mostly a concern if you're pushing hundreds of TB per month. Your goal of 30-40 TB is far below the threshold where they would get upset at you.

For NL you might be interested in Leaseweb resellers. For example walkerservers is well-known on /r/seedboxes

Also note there are 4x6TB servers for about 40 EUR on Hetzner auction as well. Just make sure to never download a public tracker torrent on Hetzner. Ever.

  • hetzner has some 4x10tb for 55-57 euro

if you want something in nl take a look at https://www.seedhost.eu/dedicated-servers.php (big leaseweb reseller) 4x8tb for 55 euro

Thanks a lot for the recommendation. That's good to know. I'm trying to decide between Hetzner and Leaseweb providers for now.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'm really considering the walkerservers. Out of curiosity, what would be the problem with using public trackers on hetzner ? Do they block already mapped public trackers ?

Thanks for the recommendation, I'm indeed leveraging advantages/disadvantages between seedhost and walkerservers.

  • In Sweden it’s not uncommon for DMCA trolls to get your details when seeding, contacting the ISP for name & adress and sending an invoice for damages.

Normally, nobody pays them, but some are scared enough to do so.

Do you guys use a VPN with your media boxes?

  • You will need to tune vps for seedbox purpose, it's not easy.

Indeed. Anyway, I would prefer to research it and do it myself for now, so at least should be a fun learning experience in the first couple of months.

I would say I will start with xanmod kernel, which already comes with some stuff pre-tuned on the kernel, and doing some tcp tuning on sysctl and bbr algo. Apart from that using ltConfig with the High speed throughput. This should already give me some decent speeds while I research a bit more on the topic. If you have recommendations, feel free to shoot them at me
