you can always stream them thru nginx's directory index and that doesn't require more than 32mb ram

Or Google Drive Enterprise with Rclone + MergerFS

  • @stefeman said: Or Google Drive Enterprise with Rclone + MergerFS

why are you going overkill for something simple?
i mean, we're talking about self hosting and i can agree with rclone but lolwut, what does mergerfs even HAS TO DO with this, i could guess how you use it but you're going overkill for a petty thing like watching a movie

my post wasn't a competition as to who can come up with the most "savy" stack lol

cant you just dl it, play, delete?

I want to use hardlinks, and same folder dirs between local and remote and also store the movie/TV show after watching it myself on Plex.

I also need a lot of space, so beyond 10TB, just use full remote with local cache.

Its also super easy to setup. There are plenty of guides.

  • Depends if you got use for 40TB, if so it's a bargin for TrueNAS or a Plex server.

4x10 TB HDD is good for personal storage.
For real usage you could have got 2x1TB SSD/NVMe and host sites/apps/db

Define 'real usage' for me please, Sir.

He did, just not very detailedly, in the line you quote:

    host sites/apps/db

So anything that might require much writing and/or random IO. Though many sites/apps are fine on legacy drives IMO, if the common working set fits into RAM or the use pattern is fairly low intensity.

nginx as a reverse proxy for multiple nodes, you can make it so /subfolder proxies somewhere else

you dont need to hoard so much movies, you want to, you just get a pleasure for hoarding
showing off like this only makes sense with real stuff not petty stuff

Whats the point of deleting it? I share my plex with my family and friends. They also want to see it. I might also like to enjoy it again in few months or years.

Not to mention, that eventually the available versions of that content end up dry or only bad releases are still available.

One does not simply ‘overcome’ OCD. If it was that fucking easy, I wouldn’t have moving of video games I’ll never play and action figures I’ve no room to display.

have you actually taken statistics of what you do?
you have a need to hoard, I for efficiency, and i don't like being a hoarder because i could be more logical, everyone is different

Its all digital and it costs 18€/m and takes no real world space. The provider also dedupes it with other customers it has. I'm basically just not deleting it after watching. Can you really call that hoarding? lol

not that, but the previous comments regarding the TBs yeah xd

ofcourse it isn't, that's why it's an accomplishment

Well, they may cut you off if you are reported serving it to others. But storing your own stash there and streaming it to your own devices is probably safe: how would they know without looking and why would they care to look?

Because they really love filthy anal.

Reviewing the original question, I don't think my interpretation is at all implausible and lack of clarity is the root cause of the misunderstanding.
(I am not afraid of this conclusion)

Scanning all the storage they have in use seems like a rather inefficient way to find a few morsels of it, given the amount of well indexed porn that my contacts tell me there is out there on the wider internet.

A definition and an example are not the same thing.

I will buy every book in a series if the spines are numbered, even if I only want one of them. I have managed occasionally to only buy the books that came before the one I originally wanted.
