Address it then. What was the intent?
You created a thread generically requesting "feedback" from providers, I have no way of knowing how this went but as a result you decided to go ahead with your plan and decided the best way forward was to send $100 invoices to every provider from a gmail address with no prior notification. I wouldn't be surprised if that was illegal.
During this time you created a public thread detailing your plans to remove provider tags from old providers, yet never mentioned why. When you decided to pull the trigger, the members and a large bulk of the providers found out via a skeptical provider sending their invoice and a member picking up asking if its legit.
I completely disagree with your decision to make provider tags cost money, but that's irelevant to this point.
The way it was executed was absolutely abysmal. Could you at least admit it?
It was only a seed for an idea, of course providers would give only top VMs on top empty nodes, but the feedback will soon kill that if they are not honest everyone would know.
In retrospect I should have also sent an email out to the providers rather than relying on the announcement thread discussing it. My mistake there.
That is your decision, either people pay you 100$ for 6 months or they can fuck off.
And you made that decision as you already can see, people will stop posting here, since they won't pay the 100$.
LET is not going to be the same it was, its going to WHT quick.
Remember, Remember the 11th of March, Amen.
Also raising the Dedicated Server limit to 175$ per month? seriously?
I don't think it'll come to that. Offers are a fairly small part of the activity here imo. Loads of us are here to shitpost and chew bubble gum. And we're all out of gum.
WHT's problem was it was mostly offers and less banter/misc discussion.
I am very engaged towards moving things in a positive and progressive fashion here. The work completed over the past two years shows that.
We have a lot of great stuff coming down the pipe and we need some help to finance those initiatives. When looking at all the options asking providers to pay just a little bit towards that seemed like sensible choice.
If that proves to have been the wrong choice then we will asses what options exist to fund the initiatives.
I am here doing my very best and putting a lot of effort into LowEndTalk and LowEndBox. Have some faith.
I've just learned a new verb
Six to nine years later:
Dear Yoursunny,
Here is your invoice of $600. Payment method : push-up coins.
Invoice item: LET IPv6 Advocate pro max membership.
If you don’t pay, you can still use the downgraded tag ‘IPv4 Advocate’
Hey no fair, ezeth gets that for free.
You gotta stop wasting a shit ton of money on digital ocean for hosting and maybe this wouldn’t be an issue
The end is nigh.
The LowEndTalk is no longer low end anymore
I don't think we will see more cheap deals in the near future...
Here's a suggestion, can we at least allow Host Rep to post deals in megathread?
No, let it die. Let him have his way.
It's gotten low enough.
Fat32 should be Administrator
This invoice isn't for me.
My name is case sensitive and must be spelled in all lower case even if it's the first word of a sentence.
You mean database exporting users email addresses and plugging it into a billing software and sending out invoices is a bad idea? You've gone that far, why not just sell the user data too?
Understandable have a nice day.
i got 2 questions
HOWMUCHDIDRACKNERDPAY?
WILLBOOMERPAY?
the rest is just feelings and opinions and does not change the decision that's been made.
If he doesn't, that may be one of the only good things to come of this decision.
and here I thought I was the only one that cared about that.
Yeah we will make sure megathread continues to live on. Obviously the approach needs some tweaking here and there.
I come here for the offers and the occasional shitpost, not for video content, not for tutorials, and not for whatever "great stuff" refers to, be it contests/prizes, better default avatars or virtual blowjobs.
(actually, let me think about the last one)
I hate "business people" constantly trying to "grow the business" by seeking out pointless initiatives which jive to their own interests, biting off more that they can chew, and effectively running the business into the ground.
If you really think you're some hotshot entrepreneur, start a completely separate brand like LowEndTutorials or whatever, with completely separate financing, and incorporate your "great stuff" there. This means that when the venture inevitably fails, it at least doesn't screw over what you already have.
I stopped visiting LowEndBox because the deals got worse and the addition of tutorials made it doubly so. I don't know what it's like now, but a quick glance indicates it hasn't improved.
If this funding initiative just means providers are more likely to ditch LET, then so am I.
Thanks for the perspective. Good to hear this kind of feedback.
Never claimed to be anything like that. Just work hard.
This is the first time I've heard this type of comment about the changes we've made the past few years to LowEndBox. The generally accepted position a few years ago was that the endless stream of offers was boring and just noise and that we needed to provide more valuable content for people to care.
WHAT.
Well, the next logical thing is to bill every member $50 now.
I agree that the lively discussion is absolutely critical. Maintaining and expanding that is critical in my mind.
This is a really messed up attitude.
I think this comment came across wrong. Everyone has different criteria by how they validate or rate the reliability of a Provider. Presence in the marketplace / brand awareness may be one of those factors.
Did not mean to offend anyone.
3/11. In 20 years, people will ask, where were you on 3/11?
Was yoursnowflake taken?
Sales + renewals for Black Friday have almost exclusively been from here most years for MXroute. New sales from LET have been no less than $10k that month alone, every year. Renewals add up to that month being roughly $30k in gross revenue (net is much lower, but that's my problem and doesn't speak much to offset what impact LET has had).
I have to assume that I'm not the only one seeing numbers like this, I don't consider mine to be anywhere near the most popular service offering here.
