pCloud Lifetime on sale again - 122€ for 500GB, 245€ for 2TB

Seems like pCloud lifetime storage is on sale again. Technically, there is almost always some kind of sale going on, but I believe the offer which is on right now equals the one from BF, so may be worth sharing? ;)

Is anyone using them? I have got Koofr so far, but thought about jumping on pCloud at some point, too. As kind of an additional backup kinda thing. @vyas11 have you been using them?

They have a history of disabling peoples account without any prior intimation. I'd rather stick with filen.io for my encrypted storage needs.

Yeah, I have read some Reddit posts where they apparently even scanned files prior to the upload and prior to being encrypted by their encryption process to later run and compare hashes against copyright infringement and other things. This certainly didn't bode well. However, just dumping some extra backups there or files that are already encrypted may still be worth it. They also seem to support rclone.

    Not to derail the thread.

With that price, my current provider will last around 46 months (500GB, Nextcloud with bunch of features) and 53 months for 2TB.

At the end of the period, the storage will be cheaper than before.

There will be a new promotion as well.

That's a good point. However is it a self-hosted Nextcloud and do you have to secure/manage the vps yourself or is it smth like Nextcloud as a service? Still, there are more affordable solutions out their, for sure. At some point the LTD product may come to "out-live" the monthly/anual sub. Often enough, it's the other way around, though. Just thought pCloud has been around long enough to somewhat trust them to not close shop in the years to come. Then again, nobody knows. Have you been happy with the Nextcloud Apps and Usage so far? Last I used was Owncloud before the Nextcloud thing happened. Probably will have to take another look at Nextcloud.

Well, it's a managed Nextcloud service.
You get one private installation thus you can create many users and add custom domain on your own.

They have been around since 2009.

They're probably talking about the new Hetzner boxes, https://hetzner.com/storage/storage-box (Just storage) and https://hetzner.com/storage/storage-share (Nextcloud). Either of these would probably end up being cheaper than these lifetime deals.

  • I used their services for years.

Primary service from them that i use is "Remote Upload" means file can be uploaded from URL address directly to pCloud drive which is awesome.

    pCloud Services are appreciated.

Acutally sounds solid. Although it says on "Just Storage" page that the data is not backed up to different servers whereas on the Nextcloud side it seems the data is backed up to various locations. Might give the Nextcloud option a try, afterall. Thanks!

  • Happy with my Hetzner Storage Share after price drop, got upgraded from 500gb to 1tb for less cost.

    So I'll pass on this.

  • I have gone with backblaze unlimited package. Not had a issue with them.

  • By the way @Fritz what is the provider you were talking about? You can PM instead if you prefer that, I likely will not use it but I am curious since I am not aware of any other providers in Hetzners price range.

  • I wanted to buy their Lifetime deal too, as my Website backup plugin support pCloud as remote storage. Because of these kinds of things (https://edit.tosdr.org/points/11741), I can't just depend on them with my backups. One day I have all my backups and next day I have none.

pCloud reserves the right, at any time and without prior notice, to remove or disable access >to any content that pCloud, at its sole discretion, considers as objectionable for any reason, >in violation of these Terms or otherwise harmful to the Site or Services.

I know this doesn't sound nice, but don't most cloud providers include such a clause in their ToS, though? A clause to terminate service if they believe you cause harm to other users, the service or are in breach of ToS?

    Google states smth similar:

Suspending or terminating your access to Google services
Google reserves the right to suspend or terminate your access to the services or delete your Google Account if any of these things happen:

you materially or repeatedly breach these terms, service-specific additional terms or policies
we’re required to do so to comply with a legal requirement or a court order
there are objective and concrete reasons to believe that your conduct causes harm or liability to a user, third party, or Google — for example, by hacking, phishing, harassing, spamming, misleading others, or scraping content that doesn’t belong to you.

I know what you mean, but after reading a couple of reviews online. They suspended the account with no notice, which is pretty harsh, I think. I wouldn't compare them with google though. Smaller companies take a risk of being dishonest sometimes and then they go out of business. This storage lifetime deals looks like Pyramid Scheme business.

Fair enough. I also know what you mean, just saying I'd assume most Cloud Storage providers (especially "smaller" ones) would have such a clause. While lifetime deals often suggest a pyramid scheme, pCloud (and other lifetime providers) often also offer annual/monthly subscriptions making lifetime deals not their only source of income. It's usually just what their marketing team tries to sell the hardest.

It is really nice of you to not post your provider in order to honor the OP, but there have already been mentioned quite some alternatives (Filen, Hetzner Storage, Sync, backblaze..). I, personally, don't mind either :) Feel free to post it here instead of having to reply to all the messages.
