The geekbench score is so high. My Racknerd is only about 500.

    any expert opinion ?

  • @Daniel15 said: Why is the disk slower with a larger block size? 🤔

My assumption is some kind of throttling coming in due to the large number of writes (if they run their storage across a set of disks like Amazon EBS or similar) or if that's not the case, simply a cache reaching its maximum capacity.

Thanks! That was probably the main interrogation behind the questions @terrahost doesn't want (or can't) answer. Good to know.

@oto, someday you may understand when you're in a business position contractually obligated to not answer certain questions. The hands of @terrahost are literally tied.

    • Is @terrahost really bound (by Epik supposedly) to not make such statements? A few have said so in one way or another but that doesn't mean it's true.
    • A company also has obligations towards their customers.
    • A company is bound by laws and those override shareholder desires. One such obligation is typically that information on ownership and management must be obtainable.

Rob Monster told me today that he will be making a 2nd press release soon about Terrahost. His 1st announcement was in an Epik newsletter at Christmas. Here's Rob Monster's official statement:

"Terrahost will have a separate ownership and governance structure, which should make it open to all kinds of views."

Thanks for your effort (I really mean it) but Mr. Monster's statement doesn't really clarify the situation and basically just adds yet another "monday(TM)!".

But still, I do have a @terrahost VPS and am happy with it. 2 simple reasons, (a) it's a great product at a great price, and (b) Noway to the best of my knowledge has good (and tough) laws wrt. privacy and data protection and terrahost still is norwegian company, no matter how many % Rob Monster owns.

But still, terrahost consistently ignoring our (reasonable!) questions and Mr. Monster making a nice sounding but rather worthless statement and basically just throwing in yet another "monday(TM)!" makes the whole thing stink.

@terrahost: you have a good reputation (modulo Epik (co-?) ownership), very nice products and very decent connectivity at good prices (at least in your promos). So, why not simply putting your cards on the table and leaving the smelly phase behind you?

Quite decent but besides the Norway target consistently far below even 500 Mb/s. But keep in mind that that is a cheap VPS! To put it differently, I just very recently benchmarked another provider's VPS with way better connectivity but (a) this @terrahost VPS is considerably cheaper, (b) is based on a shockingly fast Ryzen (and good memory), and (c) even 250 Mb/s to the major european destinations, 100-ish to the East Coast, and 50-ish to Asia isn't bad at all and more than is usually really needed.

If Rob Monster finally decided to make a satisfying statement like "we (co-?) own terrahost but do not in any way reign in on their management plus Epik gets and/or has no (access to) terrahost's customer data" terrahost would get a warm recommendation from me.

Why is the disk slower with a larger block size? 🤔

Good question actually. It seems more consistent now:

    Block Size | 4k (IOPS) | 64k (IOPS)
      ------ | --- ---- | ---- ----

    Write | 2.99 GB/s (5.8k) | 2.80 GB/s (2.7k)
    Total | 5.83 GB/s (11.3k) | 5.42 GB/s (5.2k)

But 64k speed still looks a bit weird compared to 512k and 1m.

Not necessarily. They might be not as much evil as they seemed to be in the recent past (bad security practices that made possible a huge data leak, dubious communication that made several "legit" customers run away, etc.).

Maybe they are a serious company and they fixed their shit. If so, they bring money to @terrahost who can expand, and maybe they'll bring a serious "free speech" approach (i.e. we have lawyers and won't shut down our customers if we don't have a local court order), which can't hurt.

That being said, we still don't know how they are involved in this operation as @terrahost has been very successful at avoiding giving more information on what was going on, despite promising to do so soon(TM). It seems like contracts on the .com website are still done with Terrahost AS, for what it's worth...

Sounds epic, congrats on the expansion.

    @MannDude is epic/k a problem?

Nah, I was just being a bit factitious since the previous rumor/claim of Epik's involvement or ownership. I don't think it's a problem and I support Epik in what they do.

you can obtain it from Norway company registry. It is all information public can obtain. Everything else is private and nothing to do with you/us, especially how many % someone owns.

    Same for me.

If it helps, I followed the Kansas City buy here link and then entered the promo code, "OhHeyThereUS"

Any chance the deal will re-open?
