Quick Terrahost Bench

Hello folks,

I just received a new @terrahost server from the hostsolutions.ro migration.
At first, the machine was apparently reachable, but not functional in the panel.
For instance, it was marked as offline, VNC didn't work, reinstalls weren't possible and such.

However, after opening up a support ticket, I was told that the migration is still taking place.
Andreas immediately spun up a new machine instead of migrating the VPS, so here I am with a quick benchmark.

Keep in mind, this is most probable a custom configuration and might not be found in this way.

I was highly impressed to see a 5950X in there ! Astonishing performance.
I assume, that I am currently on a rather empty node. But this CPU performance is really amazing.
Network seems also decent and for an SSD the speeds are quite good.

What I would also like to mention is, that there exists an ongoing thread about a takeover of Terrahost by Epik.

Wow, this must be the 1 EUR/yr 6969MB 69GB plan... I got one last time but all my services (including the FAT32 8.88 EUR/yr one) got removed from the client area so didn't manage to get migrated

Welp glad that you asked :D
I am currently not sure what I exactly pay for it (as a second server from HS should be migrated any time now and I received two bills already). However it should be around 10€/y (yes, insane)

I didn't make it to apply the coupon from @cociu back then so it's at 10 bucks instead of the 1.
    Still a killer deal

The migrated service is not continuing the billing period? It is charged again?

I honestly believe that the bills I received were only for the 6969 special. In HS' clientarea it was also shown as 1€/y instead of 10. Therefore I assume it might be a bug due to the migration, but for me that's still fine. Can't complain with this machine, can I ;)?

Anyway, the other server I got from HS was / is(?) a 1TB xx€/3year (I think it was 50€/3y). I haven't received a bill of this sum (or in the area of it), so I think it might be honoured for the billing period. However, this server is currently unavailable, so I'll just wait what happens.

We honor the current billing period from HS.

Please get in touch if you feel there is an error in the billing :)

Yep, we're actively migrating servers. Should be available shortly.

Thanks for the offer, but I got such a great deal and an upgrade from a 2460L (or similar?) to a 5950X, so it's worth definitely it.. Furthermore, it isn't profitable for you anyway I assume

I believe he said that at the time of flash sale, he could not successfully enter the promo code to get the deal at 1€/y. HostSolutions/@cociu offered this flash deal at 10€/y + a 90% coupon code to make it 1€/y.
(I think he edited his original comment now.)

I can confirm that very positive impression - with an ugly 'but': my colleague and friend lost all his data during the transfer to @terrahost; it seems that all data of all VPS on that node were lost and sadly terrahost, according to my information, just sent a laconic email basically saying "all your data is lost, tough luck"; no compensation, no consolation, nothing, which was taken very negatively.
Plus pricing increased dramatically. In that case it more than doubled to €7/mo.

That said, the new VPS is awesome.

That is what I saw. Pick your choice: either @terrahost heftily increased price or @cociu told them phantasy prices.

Either way, the price is over double of what it was before. That said, my colleague and friend ponders keeping his VPS anyway because it still is a good deal especially considering the performance, just not even close as sweet as it was with HS, albeit with far worse performance.

However, I don't think I could accept paying more for the same service. It is why I am OK with the transfer in the first place: price! If Epik intends to ask for more money, I will definitely cancel, whatever the performance. It's about trust and reliability in a company's word.

I would love to see Epik coming with nice and new offers on LET, while keeping their contracts, instead of doing some shady business with price increases out of nowhere (like Online does). But I guess only time will tell; right now I hope to see no drama coming from Epik.

That's a valid point of view, no doubt, but IMO it's a bit more complex. In the case I know of the price increased by about 120% - but at the same time performance - and highly likely reliability and availability - increased dramatically. The @terrahost VPS easily has 3 times the performance and 120% higher cost for 300+% performance and vastly better reliability per se isn't a bad deal at all, quite the contrary.

What would p_ss me off is the laconic "tough luck" email without even the slightest attempt of consolation, and the Epik thing, in particular the fact that terrahost seems to play us and to delay informing us properly. That is the real killer IMO. The sudden and quite dramatic price increase can be explained; after all terrahost isn't HS but runs a decent operation and you actually get value for your money. But the Epik thing really smells and undermines trust.

Wow, this must be the 1 EUR/yr 6969MB 69GB plan... I got one last time but all my services (including the FAT32 8.88 EUR/yr one) got removed from the client area so didn't manage to get migrated

Same here, I feel pretty sad about it considering we had to be extremely fast to get one of those and we were one of the very few to manage that.

Yeah, due to the node crashing we had a few corrupt VM drives unfortunately. Sorry for being a bit cold. We're working around the clock on this case and things like that can be a bit rushed..

Plus pricing increased dramatically. In that case it more than doubled to €7/mo.

Due to the fact that all billing was done manually, there may be some mistakes for a few accounts. If so please get in touch and we'll correct it for you or you buddy.

That's among the best 3 VPS I ever benchmarked, and no, the node is not empty (as the spread shows).

    Thanks :)

Yeah accounts removed before our agreement did not make the cut unfortunately :| And we see that there is reprovisioning on those IPs aswell. Only a few cases of this that we've seen.

Unfortunate but it is what it is, thank you for the information. We drew the short straw it seems.

My colleague and friend did - and he was brushed off by your support. After seeing my benchmark results he somewhat calmer but he was really p_ssed off by the "cold" laconic email and the fact that you didn't even really apologize for the lost data, let alone offering some consolation.
Frankly, I told him to cool down a bit and to see the relation price - performance, and he would be willing to pay somewhat more but at least until now he isn't happy at all with your style and "cold" attitude.

I'm not sure I like you, considering some things I saw, but when benchmarking I'm always unbiased, objective and fair. And the VM really is a speed demon.

@jsg Can you PM me the ticket id? I need to look into the billing. We want to fully honor the HS pricing.

I take it that this was the 1 eur VPS deal? I also previously had that, but it hasn't shown up in my Enigma account yet... it's funny, since I had the same thing happen. I wasn't able to enter in the coupon so it was at 10 EUR.

@terrahost Will you honor these deals? I haven't had my server from that provisioned yet...

  • @Doragon said: but it hasn't shown up in my Enigma account yet

They are still migrating accounts, you might get the server soon.
Did you get that deal in Norway? @terrahost only acquired HS clients that had services in Norway.

  • a new @terrahost server from the hostsolutions.ro migration? Romania data center vps?

  • @zhuyijun said: Romania data center vps?

No, only for the Norway location.

No, only for the Norway location.

    for €1/year KVM?

Doesn't matter which plan. I meant that Terrahost only acquired HS' Norway location customers. Not Romania.

Seems like they keep being too optimistic on their status page: they were supposed to have moved all storage boxes two days ago.

Yes, a lot of really large servers at the end here. But we're going at it and restoring 15-20 servers a day.
