the download speed is a little bit slow

Hi @Pieceago -- appreciate you placing an order with RackNerd and for taking advantage of our Black Friday deals! Thank You for taking the time to share and run the benchmark as well. :)

It looks like your VPS is located in our Los Angeles DC-02 location - so with regards to your concern about download speeds, I did want to point out that geographic distance between the VPS and the remote network test destinations play a big role in speeds. In this case, I see most of the tests were in remote destinations very far from LA (i.e. London, Paris, Singapore, etc) - remote destinations mostly being in different sides of the world. If your audience is mostly in Europe (as a generic example), deploying a VPS in the east coast such as our New York location for better latency and network speeds to that region. The general rule of thumb is to pick the server location closest to the majority of your audience. If that is not possible, then putting your site behind a CDN like CloudFlare to optimize edge delivery times is recommended.

It does appear there is one west coast test server in that test script you used, in which case I see you were able to almost fully maximize the potential of the 1Gbps port - with 925Mbps download and 929Mbps upload.

It's also worth mentioning that during this time of the year, a lot of benchmarks are being ran as people deploy new servers from Black Friday offers, putting additional load on the remote public iperf3 network test servers that the benchmark script uses.

If you're just looking to get an idea of download speed, you can run the below command:

    wget -O /dev/null http://cachefly.cachefly.net/100mb.test

Or to one of our other west coast datacenters, such as:

    http://lg-sj.racknerd.com/100MB.test

We are always open to optimizing in/out routes on-demand, though by default we use Noction IRP which usually does a fine job at automating the optimization of routes. Feel free to reach out to me at any time: [email protected]

Quick question, can you use a vps in another area like Europe without issues?

Hi @TqR -- absolutely. As a heads up, while you could technically choose any server location of your choice - our New York location would most likely offer the lowest latency to this region (lower latency means faster internet connectivity speeds between you and the server).

Even if I'm in another country?

This is very exciting news. Will be doing it all this week coming! Happy not to be using linode or ocean-breeze or whatever they are. I like small independent businesses because they get it. Your clientele are your bread and butter, frankly they are everything. Big tech gives 'no fucks' and wipes out anyone that gets in their way. YAY for you and your products. NOT kissing ass, just saying how it is. Because if you sucked I would tell you so. lol

I agree with this 100% as I started out on LEB/LET servers then tried out some cloud providers like AWS/DigitalOcean/ETC and it feels so non-personal in comparison and honestly some of the servers were actually slower but cost 100x more. I suppose they're more geared for enterprise use though. So I'm back here to fill my server needs!

The more independent we can become, the more control we have, over big tech narratives. Which don't have our best interests, they see us as a piece of property to use and abuse as they see fit. NOT on my watch. I am learning as fast as I can, slow at first and methodical then exponentially burst when it all of a sudden, it clicks into place. It's a bit hard but LOVE'n this learning curve.

Its a nice little business model, to take a tiny slice and make it widely available too individual users. Take care of the little guys and you will always have a healthy and tidy business. If you look at independent home-grown sellers, it always starts with one great product.

agreed! good job RackNerd and other providers here
personally i rather spin my own service than use "free" solution which will get discontinued or whatever, they will ask me to pay ridiculess money afterwards...

not to mind stuff like not seeing contents of my email in an add... thanks google for making the internet as shittier place...
