Large storage unit for Plex

I'm looking for a large storage box that can run Plex and transcode occasionally (no 4k). My budget is about $15/mo.

I've priced out a few options, but I wanted to post here to see if any other companies might be interested.

What I care about

  • at least 2tb of block storage
  • enough juice to transcode sometimes without overusing the CPU
  • 1gps and somewhere in NA. Midwest US or Toronto is ideal.

What I don't care about

  • NAT IPv4 is fine if there's IPv6
  • I'm assuming this would be HDD
  • The 2tb doesn't need to be the system volume

I've been lurking here for years, but this is my first post!

I hear the Nigh Sect has a private Plex server with plenty of storage.
Maybe ask for a slice on their server?

  • deankdeank Member, Troll

As far as I know, the sect has no funding for any kind of fancy plex servers.

Whenever there is fund, it's gone in a matter of minutes for some weird reasons.

  • Have you had a look at Ultraseedbox? 4TB storage will run you $17.22/month and includes Plex, Emby or Jellyfin - https://my.ultraseedbox.com/cart.php?a=confproduct&i=1

Why not Kimsufi 2TB in Canada? If you don't need 4k, it would suffice. It may even suffice for 4k as well but you may get occasional buffering if the average bitrate is >90Mbps.

Alternatively, you can try to join a plex share from r/plexshares. It will cost between 5-10$ and will have a huge library.

Ultra is great, tried a few different boxes around, but haven't compared yet.

Is it run by @SnTHostings ?

  • A kimsufi ks-7 for $10.99/month should do. It's an i3 so transcoding will work, but not for doing many simultaneously.

It goes to male PMS research obviously

Can I nominate some people for the clinical trials?

  • deankdeank Member, Troll

The trials need males with severe PMS conditions.

Someone like @tinyWeasel would work, but under a condition that he will undergo a gender alteration afterwards. Someone like that shouldn't be left as a male.

Need large plate chickens and bricklayers. Is deep Atlantic storage well connected to China?

Try whatbox.ca, they have servers in Canada/Netherlands ;)

    Yes, they are logit.

Deep Atlantic Storage does not have a good connection to China, because China is too far from the Atlantic Ocean where we store you precious bits neatly ordered.
Nevertheless, there are reports that MJJ has successfully uploaded 1000PB file.

I have heard reports of MJJs claiming to have successfully restored extremely large files, but I'm not certain about the translation. Apparently the chicken came back smarter than it was before it went into the car.

It's $18/month for me. Is there a well known discount code that I don't know about?

Edit: nevermind! Found it. Thank you. I'll setup the kimsufi unit and the vps I got and see which works better in the first month.

Then I'll cancel the one I like less.

There is an old “flash” sale price of €8.99 (plus initial €9.99 setup fee, plus VAT if applicable) that still seems to be available: https://www.kimsufi.com/en/order/kimsufi.xml?reference=1804sk181

@mwt If you need root, then you can also try https://cloudboxes.io/

They have re-route, located in NL within NFOrce network.

Or even https://www.seedboxco.net/ (also tested and logit), using Leaseweb, but on lover side in terms of performance, i think too oversold ;)

That's what I did. It's an incredible deal. Only 100mbs, but that's probably fine.

  • I think it would be good if I could get a box with 1Gb down and 100Mb up, but right now the speed makes it take a while to get files.

It would be nice if the rack got upgraded to the new bw.

It’ll happen one day, fella. Just might not be doing your natural lifespan.

Do you need a seedbox, or do you just need a lot of storage? The suggestions will vary a lot depending on exactly what you need. HostHatch storage VPSes are great. They don't have much CPU power, but you can get a regular NVMe VPS either with HostHatch or with another provider in the same location, and mount the storage over NFS or iSCSI (the latter of which is what most block storage would be using)

@letbox and buyvm ( @Francisco ) have extremely inexpensive storage

I've got a HostHatch storage VPS with 10TB space for $120/year in Los Angeles... I don't think anybody can beat that. Storage is a bit slow compared to BuyVM, but it's good for the price. I'm mostly using it for backups of all my other VPSes + all my home PCs, photo storage, and Seafile (where I store important documents, tax returns, scans of my ID and passport, etc. in an encrypted library)
