congrats!
I migrated my side project (www.dynablogger.com) already, no problems so far. I added to my privacy/terms that the servers are in the USA. Most of my users are from the USA so I hope this was the right decision. BTW in case anyone is into Kubernetes on Hetzner Cloud I just updated a tool I wrote, vitobotta/hetzner-k3s, with support for the new location. With this tool you can create a full production cluster in Hetzner Cloud in a couple of minutes 🙂
I was just saying number 8 in Japanese is phonetically closet to Spanish ja as I thought 5 is pronounced Ha in Thai.
BTW. 888 as claps is mostly used among niconico otaku viewers. never seen any normal guy used that slang. www
I always thought of Germany of being east, but looking at a map it looks pretty central.
Looking forward too or even HongKong but for Dedi though.
@dahartigan how do you find connectivity from australia to ashburn?
Fantastic! (particularly when compared with Germany and Finland)
I get about 200ms which is decent, the best is usually 170ms to Los Angeles.
The network speed is fantastic, I'm able to max out my home connection (100mbit) and it's been stable (so far)
I'm quite impressed. I'm honestly wondering whether I should cancel everything and switch it all to Hetzner Cloud.
vocus your upstream?
I'm not entirely sure to be honest. Whatever Aussie Broadband use for their network, I guess? Sorry I couldn't answer that, maybe @trewq knows that answer, if he's around?
One of these haha
Hetzner Ashburn -> ABB Sydney goes via Cogent -> Zayo -> Telstra Global -> Telstra -> ABB. Nice long path

Well, that's what I learn from here tho https://jpninfo.com/51467
Never knew if that's related to specific community.
The Cloud Act does not affect Hetzner Online GmbH in any shape. It only applies to US-based companies. The US cannot get data from servers in Europe.
As per https://www.justice.gov/dag/cloudact:
"The United States enacted the Clarifying Lawful Overseas Use of Data (CLOUD) Act in March 2018 to speed access to electronic information held by U.S.-based global providers that is critical to our foreign partners’ investigations of serious crime, ranging from terrorism and violent crime to sexual exploitation of children and cybercrime. "
Please don't repost things that you don't know are true, especially something as pivotal as this, as people eat up rumors and take them for fact.
Good to know.
Not so sure: it wasn't posted as "the truth" but as something that might be worthwhile to discuss/question. We wouldn't have your interesting comment without this tweet being pointed out in the thread. @Hetzner_OL could also have shed some light on this potential issue, as that's something that could matter to some users.
If both companies are totally separated that's probably fine indeed.
Why would they form Hetzner US LLC and not accept USD? This makes the costs volatile and clients outside of Europe are paying conversion fees on top of that.
will they still ban servers for getting IP listed on spamhaus? will they still forward us abuse reports without checking it is valid or not? will they still terminate all our dedicated servers if we haven't responded to the fake submitted reports? am not foking, this thing happened with many people i have asked about it on a lot of forums, facebook groups etc.
Hetzner is too cheap, but it is good for individual people, not good for any web hosting company who sells shared hosting because in shared hosting you'll get abuses and hetzner will even forward you abuses without checking and also will suspend your server if you not solve the issue which doesn't even exist.
Was there any statement confirming that Hetzner US LLC is operating the Ashburn DC colo? Otherwise, they might be required to incorporate in the US so as to be able to import hardware from their GmbH: https://www.importgenius.com/importers/hetzner-us
EDIT: Looks like the answer is "yes": https://www.hetzner.com/AV/subcontractors.pdf
They don't own or operate the facility in Ashburn - just colocating.

@Hetzner_OL we need to see you SGP.
We are aware that you all have questions, and we have some answers that we are preparing. As soon as they are ready, we will post them. There have unfortunately been some delays because of illness, which we apologize for.
Thanks for this feedback. I will pass it onto our business development team.
@0xbkt -- @DP is correct. We are using colocation space at a data center partner we found in Ashburn. This allowed us to more quickly introduce Hetzner Cloud products to the USA. Building and operating a DC there of our own would be a much bigger investment in time and infrastructure. However, the cloud hardware in our colocation space is, of course, our own. And our DC technicians back in Germany are still responsible for monitoring and managing the cloud systems in ASH.
@virgilmosciski - I'm sorry, but I don't understand your question. What is SGP? --Katie
Account involucrated, but SGP = Singapore.
Here is some additional information about data protection/data privacy that is relevant to new Ashburn location in the USA.
Singapore - Well, we are always on the lookout for new opportunities and new locations. I will pass on a +1 for you for SGP to our business development team. As you probably know, we don't make roadmaps or publish our plans in advance. We prefer to announce new locations and products when they go live. For now, we are taking things one step at a time and focusing on ASH. --Katie
Any news about dedis in US?
I hope Hetzner has some special deals/offers for cloud hosting this Black Friday.
I doubt it. In the past, they haven't had such BF discounts.
This year is a hard year for the world and everyone so let's hope they will put more into advertising as well as support us the price a bit to use their services.
AMD EPYC, NVMe disks, 20TB monthly transfer, all the standard Hetzner features (like private network, load balancing, firewalls), in the USA, with 4GB RAM and 80GB disk for €6.90 (~US$7.76) per month (ex VAT)?
Very tempted to move a bunch of my stuff away from other more expensive hosts that have legacy Intel Xeon processors and fewer features (eg no load balancing or private network).
Probably to be expected though... AFAIK the Intel servers are older, and they're not going to install old servers in a new data center.
Same here, very tempted.. It was about time for hetzner to come to the red white and blue.
