It's the price you pay for living in rural America. Even though there is giga-fiber less than a mile from my house... and wired DSL about 1/8th of a mile down the road. My only options right now are HughesNet (Uhg) or a local WISP. The WISP used to be fast three or four years ago (Well, 10-15Mbps) but over the years it's slowed down dramatically. Either I need to climb up a poll to re-align the receiver antenna with their tower (they rent space on a local Verizon tower, I believe) or they're simply overloading the network or capping speeds now.
I signed up for the Starlink Beta. I gave them my deposit a month or so ago, so hopefully "Mid to late 2021" comes very, very soon.
@MannDude is moving away from that place an option?
Lol. I used to have fiber to my home. I moved out the city and into the country.
It's nicer out here. I can live with slow internet. SSH works. I can browse the web just fine. Only annoying when trying to stream media.
You adapt.
5 mbps over wisp must be VERY annoying for streams.
Back in 2000 I had 1 mbps and even radio for my aunt when nothing else was hogging bw was sometimes choppy and it was ADSL, not WISP.
I know GL-AR750 is marketed as a travel router.
I selected this model because it has 5GHz radio with 802.11ac, and it is hackable coming with OpenWrt.
