Yes. It is single sheet accounting, not double bookkeeping. I did it literally in Excel.

You don't even need to register at all. The target of this is obviously mostly tourism jobs (logic: tourists come and spend money, the gov takes 25% VAT anyway, why bother with VAT/income tax from their residents/citizens) but it very nicely works also for IT.

You can do it yourself but it is easier to pay an accountant, my wifes aunt does it for me and i pay around 500 HRK/month (75EUR ca.). Prices are government set, same as for notaries and lawyers.

We also have a very strong eGov system (you login with your netbanking or ministry of finance details) - You can open a company in a day for less than 50EUR without ever visiting a single gov office, just a random notary.

Companies are also income tax AND corporate tax free until you hit 300000 HRK (40000EUR) turnover, then you can close it and open a new one and repeat the process. This is absolutely legal.

The only times i went to the gov physically here is when i got my gun license, register new guns or change my residential address (citizens can also do this online).

Much appreciated I think the german "Freiberufler" has similar liberties as compared to your sole trader, but generally only artists, doctors and some select few kind of people can apply for it. I also wanted to do my accounting in Excel, since as a small bussiness I am not required to do double book keeping but as german tradition dictates "why easy, if it can be done more complicated"? In Germany all bussiness owners (also small bussiness) are (now) required to do their accounting in a "GOBD" conform way. This is basically some standard that says invoices can not be editable, edited retrospectively or removed. You'd have to issue a "Storno-Invoice" instead. Also a system would need to log every change made to any invoice or income and also have Datev Export and access for finance office if required. GOBD is made in a way that you can basically not accomplish it without paying for such software which usuall starts from 8€/mo up to 25€/mo. I am currently paying 8€/mo for this. I don't have tons of invoices but due to german regulations I am forced to pay for such software/SaaS. It is really annoying, as I would have preferred Excel and I still do Excel as a backup if my GOBD SaaS some day suddenly decides to vanish.

As it is now Blesta, for example, would also not be GOBD conform. However, I believe a request for making Blesta GOBD conform has been added already to Blesta requests.

Accounting is work, as is billing and so on. Easier to just do freelancing and not pay tax below the minimum turnover amount in your country (eg. here in Croatia almost 10000€/year is tax free as sole trader/private, while corporate tax starts at 0€ if you have a company).

People are earning more in freelancing today compared to a paycheck in my country. But if you wish to avoid paying income tax you can be in trouble here.
