To be frank, any system could work. What's needed is not a particular software so much as a commitment to keep it going.
The current interim support desk exists because CC couldn't take 5 minutes to fix the admin panel install. The desk was down entirely for months because CC couldn't take 30 mins (?) to fix a broken install. Seriously, the amount of work required to fix things was very minimal and no one could be bothered to fix it.

First, a very massive thanks to our moderator team who stepped in to help us with a temporary solution while the primary support desk was left unfixed for so long.
I've fixed the support desk and updated the software so we are good to go with that again.
