Need low cost yearly EU storage KVM with 500G disk space
Hi.
For EU I'm currently using 20€/y time4vps 512G OpenVZ instance.
It in fact lost it's backup appeal long ago (no fuse and other grievances), but I still use it as personal VPN around censorship due to great connectivity.
I gather it might be a good idea upgrade to some other EU KVM (or downsize to VPN VPS only).
HDD: I need 512Gb disk space
CPU, RAM: I pretty much don't care
Bandwidth: 1T? Any reasonable bandwidth proves to be more than enough for me
Port Speed: I care more about latency for occasional personal VPN use
IPs: 1 ipv4
Location: EU
What are the current best yearly deals on such an instance?
Thank you.

Do you need your own IPv4 or is a NAT storage VPS acceptable ?
Yes, IPv4 address is a must.
I can do 500GB HDD in France with 1vCore and 1GB Ram for £3.99/m or £35/y.
I also believe wishosting @exception0x876 should be able to provide cheaper storage plans in France. Might be an idea to look at their plans.
Or the cheapest Kimsufi at OVH FR ? that's about EUR 48 a year for 100 Mbps and 500GB HDD.
Those have no raid (maybe ok for backup) and might have quite old hdd (who makes 500gb any more?). That said, in my recently acquired Kimsufi with 2x2tb drives, the drives are not so old.
@UltraVPS Storage Special - Germany and NL
1core/1GB/750GB/5TB BW €48/yr
https://www.ultravps.eu/en/
also CrownCloud offer a good quality 500 GB storage on a 2 vcore / 512 mb ram kvm in Frankfurt for $50 per year ($25 paid every 6 months) - https://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/156395/crowncloud-1000-gb-hdd-kvm-storage-at-frankfurt-los-angeles-7-month-more/p1
I don't see that there now. The ones I see are much more, and they don't appear to be KVM.
All their servers are KVM.
The offer is still there at https://www.ultravps.eu/en/
Do you have a test file for checking speed/latency?
Can I upload a distro ISO and run a custom install?
(BTW storage link on your website directs to an empty wordpress page)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but no backups is kind of pre-requisite for a cheap storage server.
Usually not a problem for a redundant backup server.
Though Backupsy lost my VPS twice in a year. Given a name, I find this ironic.
For US I've switched to using a deal from SpeedyKVM.
Contrary to Backupsy I've had zero problems with Speedy.
Not even a single outage in two years.
I don't hear from them, they don't hear from me. Perfect business-customer relation, I'd say.
Consider it as well deserved advertisement.
RAID is not backup, it just keeps the data alive through a drive failing. On a large array the overhead of RAID-6 can be pretty low and still withstand simultaneous failures. I think a no-raid storage VPS on shared hardware is asking for trouble. I'd expect them all to have some kind of raid.
What site where you on? Our storage page can be found here
For France HDD, the LG and test file can be found here
Sure, you can upload your own custom ISOs or use one of our available ISOs.
For VPS, I definitely agree.
I've actually looked up soyoustart ARM servers, and I almost regret I have no need for 2TB
I've clicked KVM VPS -> Storage, and ended up here: https://kvm.doctor/storage/
Great!
I'd like to take this offer. How do I proceed?
also in 2 days i will offer kvm storage plans.
You can pry my 24eur/24months time4vps 500G from my cold broke dead hands.
From what page or site exactly? I'd appreciate if you could provide the url so I can fix it.
Regarding the plan, it is custom, I will prepare it now and then PM you the order link.
He-he.
Unfortunately I also need some additional conveniences.
OpenVZ + nofuse is an encryption tombstone, which makes this a one-point safe storage. A find it a bit hard to trust it with a backup.
Sure, you can run fuse on a different machine, thus not sending keys over, ever.
But in my experience it's a dog slow solution. Recovering an rdiff-backup snapshot takes millennia.
Second problem is running a custom VPN solution.
If fact running anything custom enough, is a hassle with OpenVZ.
Nothing wrong with that, but for my use-case time4vps OpenVZ turned out to be a false economy.
Just encrypt the backups before storing them on the remote server.

@HostSlick thank you for the offer.
I've already took one from @HostDoc though.
BTW, I'm very impressed by 500G SSD, that's an excellent config.
Wowowow!
@aidaho Can you link me the deal too?

Since the offer wasn't publicly linked, I think you should PM @HostDoc
@aidaho Can you PM me the price and specs you got?
Whoa, I missed at first look that this was SSD. Is it actual SSD, pure SSD rather than SSD cached HDD? Just making sure. It's amazing if it's pure SSD. Any raid level? What kind of drives?
