1&1 IONOS 1€ KVM VPS
Hi,
I just noticed 1&1 IONOS is offering an 1€ KVM VPS with 1vCore, 512MB RAM in Germany/ USA.
Has anyone ordered one yet?
Unfortunately there is a 10€ setup fee.
Thanked by 1datanoise

So this is just a rebrand of 1&1 (1and1.com) and as far as I know they have very poor reputation, some horror stories mostly connected to the domain business.
if someone buy it and then transfer it to me. Willing to pay $2 for it.
Well, I had good experiences with them.
I just bought domains for cheap, the phone support was helpful.
The interesting stuff begins when I transfer domains out this year.
So far no issues, even then, I know people at IONOS that can do stuff for me.
Sounds interesting, but what is it? OpenVZ?
Any benchmarks?
Looks like KVM.
Thank you.
1&1 is shit...
Just ordered one, lets see how long the setup takes..
Can not buy this offer outside of EU or pay VAT...
Well, it has up 500Mbit as downlink.
The question is just, how much traffic is included?
I do not see any mention of that, it just says don't be a dick and take the node down or slow it down.
So I guess 100Mbit TOR Relay is fine.
FAQ says basically unemetered as is "standard" with most german hosts. They offer a flatrate sorta.
Whenever I see 1&1 written, my brain translates it to... No&No.
Not so sure. The OSs they support (Debian, CentOS, Ubuntu) and Virtuozzo (which they mention somewhere) strongly hint at OVZ or LXC.
And: 12 x 1 + 10 (Setup) -> 22€ for the first year. One can get better, a lot better, and at providers who don't keep you guessing on important factors.
This.
Well, I can mount the gparted iso, so definitely KVM.
I could even install Windows Server if I wanted.
I wont spend more then 15EUR/y for a 512MB KVM, which it does fit into.
If it would cost yearly 22EUR/y I would not have purchased it.
Longterm, I keep it for a few years, so its fine.
Everything else is specified, just the traffic seems to be fair share unlimited.
edit:
It also has v6
According to their website it is VMWare.

1&1=2
Could be interesting for long term (if they don't change pricing or terms after a few month...)
Is there any test IP for both locations? Didn't find those.
Seems like they have two locations in the US: Anexio in NJ and Switch in Vegas. But they are supposed to have their own datacenter in Lenexa, Kansas as well. Would be interested to know where the VPS are hosted.
They did not allow me to check out from US, saying this promotion is for German customers, and if I look at ionos.com (English version) there is no such promotion.
If you order from US site you can pick "Spain" as location.
Interesting.
But even over 2 years, it'll have cost you 17 EUR/y
How annoying that they hide the 10€ setup fee. It's a bit like their German DSL plans where they advertise a reduced rate, which is only valid for the first 12 months in a 24 month contract. Ridiculous. https://dsl.1und1.de/ (on their website you can see the regular price in a smaller font, in magazine advertisements you have to read the tiny fineprint)
Can this be purchased from USA? How?
Not sure which DC you will allocate in
US KC 192.195.77.125
ES MAD 217.76.129.47
DE somewhere 212.227.7.155
Agree with nope&nope.
hostdoc having flash sales for around 24 EUR yearly.
Disclaimer - don't know how it performs and not affiliated.
24EUR + VAT every year, no.
We had 2GB KVM's with VAT for 25EUR/y.
IONOS includes VAT.
I had bad experience from 1&1, so I won't recommend anything from them to anyone.
Well, I need to transfer out a few domains in the next days/weeks, we will see how it goes. I let you know.
Actually. Quite a few of our sale items have come out much less than that, it depends which item you managed to get as they are constantly changing.
