Good self hosted file manager

I'm looking for nextcloud alternative that isn't as bloated, something nice and clean.
What do you think about seafile and pydio?
What are you guys using?

  • Seafile is a nice alternative. Filerun is also something you may want to look into if you want a Nextcloud-like app with a focus on file functionality. Certainly, anything is better than CrossBox pushy spammers, so check out Seafile!

    @Yura

Your personal obsession with CrossBox is astonishing.

OP asked for something that our company offers. It's the same as when someone asks for other kinds of services and providers post offers. That's not called spamming my friend.

I have just gone through @crossbox 's entire post history on LET. Although I might've missed a few posts, the only stuff that he's done to advertise his stuff is contained to two threads, one asking people if they wanted the thing, and another announcing that the thing was done and required feedback.

The rest of the posts (outside of those threads) seem to be quite nice posts, both on a respectful level as well as on a technical level. Granted, I am no expert in the field, so I cannot entirely validate the stuff posted, but the guy seems to genuinely want to help people, even without pushing his own software. Multiple recommendations for other solutions are given by him, and some technical advise/debugging advise is given, all while remaining professional.

The only thing I can think of is that the (two) threads he made himself got bumped quite a bit, making you see his name on the frontpage quite a lot. That could've been improved by setting the thread to sink, but users dont have access to do so.

    tl;dr: imo not spammer.

  • I find Pydio to be quite nice, although it is geared more towards an enterprise deployment.

  • I've settled on seafile. (multiple instances)

Sync feature is superior to Nextcloud.

The Pro version(free for 3user license) requires 2GB ram. But you get fulltext document search, online Garbage collection, and a bunch of other nice features.

I also run a CE(community edition) server for friends+family to upload videos+photos from their camera roll via web upload.
CE would run in 1GB ram KVM I think.

  • +1 for seafile

  • I've been using Veno File Manager in the past.

    Has been solid ;)

  • I don't really need syncing features. I want something that is easy to setup (doesn't require database) and has https support out of the box.

Maybe you just need a webDAV share
    powered by lightweight nginx.

Alternative : https://github.com/mickael-kerjean/filestash (formerly known as 'nuage')

The one I mentioned earlier does not require a database and has native https support.

  • Have you tried ownCloud??

    Caddy with filebrowser plugin?

  • I'm debating between:
Caddy with filebrowser plugin - free and hassle free option
    Veno - paid option

@CrossBox is there a free/community edition? Your pricing looks pretty high for a self hosted file manager.

Can vouch for Veno. You also get updates along with it and for some time support which you can renew. Never needed support though. Very intuitive and works out of the box :)

  • Does Veno require a web server?

File storage, file management, and file sharing belong to the CrossBox module named Files. You also have mail, chat, calls/conferences, contacts, etc with hundreds of other features so it's more of a suite/groupware than just a file manager. Hence, the price.

I believe it does. I've used it on shared hosting.

I just bought Veno and it is really good. It has more features and easy to customize.

Filebrowser also has a stand alone version if you don't want to use Caddy. It’s just a single file, no dependencies needed.

  • @CrossBox

I know that your suite offers file management, but for those who don't need mail and chat features, it wouldn't be a bad idea to offer some customizable version IMO

  • Hi.
    Have a look at https://www.crushftp.com/index.html
Easy setup, endless features and good pricing (one time payment). You can try the normal version for 30 days without license...
