    As someone who worked for/as a contractor for years- there's always a problem when your interests and aspirations clash with a client- that's why you never mix business models.

    This whole thing is just incredibly fishy. I'm not trying to take a side on who is to blame, but this whole thing really smells like Rectified chummed the waters with their ability to conduct business, and Sharks smelled the bood.

    Yep, some larger companies do not understand the nimbleness of smaller ones and the ability to have a qauasi-personal relationship with the customers, especially when they share the same cultural background and good tech skills. They try to swallow the little guys and it gives them food poisoning.
    This is a disaster for everyone:
    1. OP lost if not his business altogether, as many customers will understand and stick with him, at least a lot of hardware and 50% or more of the customers, plus a lot of money with refunds and possibly chargebacks. Will probably not manage to recover anything as I doubt ST will ever release any server knowing the cost to litigate for a non-resident and the fact they already got the domain and (as they imagine) the customers;
    2. ST will get nothing but a PR black-eye, the customers will either find out what happened and will leave altogether or follow their man, okay, the servers are "safe" for now because it is highly unlikely RN will be able to afford to take them back, but they are likely not worth 40 K anyhow, and will lay idle as the customers will move if not already. At most 20 k and some unpaid wage to their admin, now will have to train another and get them into the intricacies of what the other did, probably without leaving a lot of documentation. Disruptions for customers and more empty servers to follow;
    3. The customers were shafted the most, I don't think ST will pay back the cancellations and RN is unlikely to pay back much, plus they were left without the service. Hopefully, RN will recover on the west coast, which is in a better place to serve china and eventually they will get the service they paid for, although I would not bet on it.

    TL;DR a fiasco for everyone and the main reason for it is the ST inability to think of the consequences, this looks more like a revenge move, rather than an attempt to solve a delicate situation they found themselves in.
    Granted, it is their fault too for not checking better of sooner, but the initial blame lies with RN guy, even if ST made the problem 100 times worse.
