Does anybody know a good WYSIWYG editor for websites?

KuJoeKuJoe Member, Host Rep

I'm looking for a WYSIWYG editor for web pages easy enough for a child to use. I want my daughter to design her own website and it seems that a WYSIWYG editor is the best approach since today's basically her first day of learning programming (thanks to MIT's Scratch). I've looked at RVSiteBuilder but the template options aren't great and it still feels wonky to use. A search on Google just presents me with web hosting that bundle in an editor that is probably just RVSiteBuilder. I'm willing to pay for a program or service as long as it's not outrageous and I can export/upload it to my own hosting. Thanks! :)

Not sure if it's exactly what you're after but Weebly seems to offer the ability to export anything you've made there (https://hc.weebly.com/hc/en-us/articles/215827367-Back-Up-Your-Site-zip-), so that may be something you could consider. That article says that some features won't work when exported, so if those are the kinds of things being used, that route may not work if you wanted to host the site elsewhere.

Neither of these are WYISWYG editors. :(

I completely forgot about FrontPage, I'll load that up and see if that works. :D

Thanks, I just need something basic so this might work. :)

TinyMCE? There are modules for this with most WordPress/etc blogs, which is possibly a good place to start her. For some reason pressing enter without ctl is saving my comment today. Yay!

This is a good idea, I should let her make a Wordpress site so when it gets hacked I can teach her a lesson about how the internet is a cruel place. LoL! :D

You could just set her up with TextPattern, but she'd instantly become a beardo.

https://bootstrapstudio.io seems to be one of the first thing coming up when I search for a bootstrap editor - from the web demo it looks pretty easy to use, and seems to be reasonably priced too ($25 one off)

oops sorry this one might be the one your looking for https://webflow.com/

it is sort of expensive, but it is really a website maker.

  • what about ckeditor ?

  • Have you tried Coast CMS. Demo -> http://www.coast-cms.de/demo/cms.php?currentfile=index.html

I haven't used it, but I really like the concept and can't get any more WSIWYG than that. Unless I misunderstood the site (it is in German), you can take any HTML page and add a class class=editable_line and it is editable on the fly.

PS: Not sure if it makes things too simple, but I think you can try it out.

    Try mykidistooyoungfortheperilsoftheinter.net

    Hope you find something useful.

  • Maybe https://github.com/evolus/pencil and its not too bad itself

  • Visual Studio Community Edition is free

When it takes more than 15 seconds to render, you know that it's good.

    Nothing of value was lost.

  • Wordpress has a lot of drag and drop wysiwyg page builder. Divi, Elementor, and beaver builder is my recommendation. Divi and beaver builder is GPL you can easily find download link online.

    Thanked by 1jbarr
  • Pinegrow web editor might be what you're looking for. License is 39$ with 1yr free updates and if you can't pay full just email them, author is very friendly too!

    VisualStudio Code

  • You might take a look at Mobirise, a free website builder for Bootstrap 4. It looks interesting, but I haven't personally used it.

Still using it to build tables.

WordPress with Elementor. Small learning curve but oh so powerful. Pro or free versions.

Ah, no...Divi is published by ElegantThemes and will cost you $89/year. BeaverBuilder is $99.

    If they've GPL'd them that'd be awesome but...I don't think so.
