The end of cheap and good Arubacloud VMs

Just wanted to check the monthly traffic limit on Arubacloud's 1€/month VMs (it's 2 TB) when I noticed a new fine print:

* The price of 1€ per month is only valid for activations made for data center DC1, DC2 or DC3. New activations made for data center DC4, DC5 or DC6 will be priced at €4,99/month.

(DC1 and DC2 are in IT, DC3 in CZ, DC4 in FR, DC5 in DE, and DC6 in UK)

So all the ones with good network (900+ Mbit/s) just saw a 400% price hike. The ones that are still available for 1€ got to around 300 Mbit/s, at most 350 Mbit/s last time I tested them.

Too good to last after all…

Edit: While we're on the subject, here are some benchmarks from DC{2..6} I had lying around: https://gist.github.com/n-st/784f36eb1f2ae9ceca59122126d65e3a

5 euro per month is not a bad price if they would improve their control panel user interface a bit.

Flan, evidently- according to the sgnature. Never did trust that- it's not custard, but not Jello, either.

Well, as @simonindia already said: This somehow was expected / had to happen.
However, I am still holding on an old 1€ one activated about a year ago and it is still going strong.
Just had to reboot it these days for some updates, after ~190 days of continuous uptime - using it as a "somehow productive" VM.
But want to back the comment of @vfuse : The panel needs some serious rework. Even though it works for everything in gernal and they finally unified the login for client area and control panel, my (only) main complaint would be the "slowness" of the interface.

Italy and Czech Republic are keeping the 1 euro plan? What's so bad?

And for 1 euro, you can't expect the best network.

  • Panel do needs serious work. It's crazy everywhere and slow.
Too bad, I was just going to purchase another one in UK.

    Here's my benchmark for Paris.

Isn't flan a distant relative of quiche?

The only eggs I prefer to be scrambled never get laid, nor hatched.

I can't say I am a fan of quiche, either.

It's sad. Next step is to modify the 1€ from the remaining datacenters too. This somewhat reminds me of Kidechire.

I went in. It says 4.99 under DC6-UK for me. I didn't go ahead with the purchase.

  • So who is their replacement?

Have 2 of 1€ plan from them for last 2 mo, and the network is really suck.. Hm yeah, 1€ anyway, its like a bot-purpose-plan, nothing to lose for 1€.. but for 5€?! really?!

Obviously get a slice. Granted, it isn't 1EUR, but it's close!

I wanted to get the server from soyoustart but their support is very bad, 2 days of waiting to activate my account, I had the server from hetzner and setup everything and moved all acconuts from the shared hosting while waiting for soyoustart replay.. hetzner had more ssd space and the hardware is brand new and they are also from germany xD
