What is the best web file manager?

  • You guys know of any PHP or Python based alternatives to https://github.com/nebulade/surfer?

  • Not offhand. Although I suppose someone could convert the javascript logic into Intercal or interpeted Cobol to make it slightly more resource intensive

  • Let me add Encode Explorer to the list. It may seem like a glorified directory listing, but it actually supports

    • file sorting
    • pdf/image thumbs
    • file uploading
    • logging/notifications
    • password protection
    • easily customized header/footer
    • mobile friendly interface.

    Which is damn impressive for a single 103kb php script. I must admit I still mainly use it as a glorified directory listing though.

  • Net2FTP is quite stale now (no update in 4 years) but there's still huge demand for web-based FTP. Have a look at Monsta FTP (www.monstaftp.com) which is a free responsive FTP client for your browser (disclaimer: I'm involved with this project)

    If you don't want to install cloud software - try syncthing.

    https://sprut.io/en/ There is no inbuild video player though. That's an open-source solution, powered by one of the best and well-known Russian hosting provider (Shared, Premium Shared and Dedicated - no VPS, .ru accredited Registrar) Beget. Their clean and multifunctional Control Panel is also in-house developed. That's, in a word, my favourite shared in Russia (Saint Petersburg, Selectel DC).

    Regarding KodExplorer: Why the hell are they making pointless classes that do work on the host CPU rather than the built-in functions in virtually every DB service?

    Personally, I like file_put_contents(), myself.

    Haven't seen it's code yet!

    I assume that is part of it posted in the screenshot.

  • You can go for AjaXplorer. Its free File Manager which is anything but difficult to-introduce document pioneer for remotely overseeing records on a web server. Its "rich customer" format and activities make it open to any end-client for an assortment of purposes: document administration/sharing, photograph exhibition, code perusing, and so forth
