Asking is fine, and I was not spamming.
Got to ask, 40 free virtual machines running on vSphere...
That is a big loss every month on the VMware service provider licence agreement.
Are you sure this is legal?
You should tag @DreamServers so he would get inform about your question
Sorry for the delayed reply due to the weekend
!
@vmhosts I'm quite shocked you would even comment about licensing with VMware do you fully understand the licencing agreements with VMware?
We're a UK based LTD company supporting a range of clients & services our clients range from a single user / small project to large corporate company's, we're fully complaint to all licenses, SLA's, agreements etc.. that’s all that needs to be said on this matter, if you have other questions please email me them.
@DreamServers No need to be shocked, yes I am fully aware of the licensing arrangements with VMware (VSPP) & know the limitations of the end user licence agreement all too well.
Wasnt looking to pick a fight I was just interested in the offer due the expense the VMware licenses and I am always supprised to see people offering VMware virtual machines at zero cost
It's called Marketing, that's what they do. If they give a tiny VPS for free then people may want to upgrade and get a paid package etc.
Agreed, and good for DreamServers to be so kind with their offer. I am all for promotion of virtualisation.
I am very new to this forum and I was very shocked at the number of people offering VMware solutions at LEB prices. I am genuinely intreseted in how companies can afford to run life time promotions like this, hence the orginal post. Probably best for me to start a new discussion though
The only reason why we can offer these special offers which are very limited in numbers is due to the amount of our infrastructure we have, otherwise we wouldn't be able to offer this. yes you're very correct VMware licensing isn't cheap far from it and again due to the volume of our licensing we have we can offer this.
maybe there are other providers that offer free VMware VPS's and some of them may not follow the licencing agreements I don't know and nor am I here to make that comment all I know is we don't
well at least man u beat city!
Also helps with word of mouth. Give the girl scout troop free hosting and you may get the parents buying their own hosting with you.
I think giving out free stuff better than running ads/buy corporate membership on WHT a lot
For example: we have to spend at least $500 for ads and corporate membership, maybe more with sticky thread, I assume $500 will enough to buy a small server, so it would work that way, I guess
Sadly, for every 1-2 people that hear about this and want to become a client, you get 10 more "non-profit groups" trying to get free service. I have offered to sponsor certain people or projects... but the invariable answer for anyone asking will be 'no'.
We required a copy of the IRS 1023 form and state so right from the beginning. That usually ends it real quick.
edit: Or they have to come through specific channels.
