Looking to buy a dedicated server to colo with one of the DCs in Chicago for a project I have.
Specs would prefer to be the following:
Budget: ??? I am not sure to be honest, would like to hear what the rest of the community says as well. Don't plan to spend anywhere more than 800USD though
And if there is anything that you'd like to suggest on the setup, feel free to post it here as well. Will primarily be used as a VMWare server with 2 Windows 2008 instance running on. No need super fast disk I/O or anything, but should be usable for MS-SQL server.
Feel free to PM me the price if you do not want to make it public. Note that the server will be shipped directly to DC and you will be paid via Paypal only (obviously the address is not a confirmed paypal address, however I guess I have been here long enough to say I am definitely not a scammer trying to get free servers :P)
Thanks a lot!

Good luck.. I tried buying from here as well, but noone seemed to sell anything. Your best bet is ebay. I was able to get some awesome deals on there.

0 • Disagree Agree ThanksThanks @Alex_LiquidHost, I tried to get something off ebay but most of them only ship to confirmed shipping address, which make no sense in my case, so I figured I could try my luck here.

0 • Disagree Agree Thanks@zhuanyi In that case, speak to some of the suppliers/sellers directly and explain it to them. Maybe pay by bank wire transfer, they just don't want to get scammed/chargedbacked.

0 • Disagree Agree ThanksBuild your own.. these old prebuilts are great but I've seen from experience building your own is always best.
Example : Buy an second hand bare-bones server, then buy all the parts separately, and build it up. It gives you flexibility to customize and mix and match, normally ends up with better price/performance.
Newegg is your best friend.
That's not what you want - look at your original post.. its also hella-old (like way too old to purchase, you don't want anything pre-07 imo)

0 • Disagree Agree ThanksThat's the thing, I do not want to build a server in Canada and pay 13% of GST and send it to US (and probably need to pay US import tax as well) when I could buy the server in US and colo in US with no tax payable...
