They run their own DNS, and it has an outage. It happens often, and I wouldn't be concerned if I were you. At least not about that.

We make use of private DNS resolvers at this time per hypervisor, which is only accessible by VM's on each hypervisor. These aren't currently configured for DNSSEC etc.

For self-hosted, PowerDNS can do GeoIP via Lua records (don't use the legacy YAML syntax). It can pick the one closest to the user that's up (so if a server is down, it won't return that server's IP).

I can see why reverse DNS being a support thing is preferred as email spam is pretty bad, but when other providers want you to submit a ticket and take days to get around to it, that can really hinder

Like reverse DNS entries and ISO installs, but if they don't mind the tickets its so fast it is not really a problem for me.
