You guessed right. Bots, and if you do not set up Rate Limit on port 53 aka request/answer limit / second, they can run your cpu at 100%, as the DNS server is doing what it should, answer until he eat

Stuff like additional DNS servers don't require 99.9999% uptime, those are designed to fail over. 99.99% is enough. That's auto-failover.

StackCP seems to support only DNS-01 challenge for Let's Encrypt, so changing name servers is required if you wish to use automated free SSL certificate.
