People don't really use the lunar calendar to number years AFAIK [1], there is the 60 year cycle though [2].

But mostly people use Gregorian calendar (with common era numbering). Although when Republic of China was founded, Sun Yat-sen switched from lunar calendar to "Minguo calendar" [3], which is like Gregorian calendar but numbers the first year as 1912 (ROC was established on 1 Jan 1912), both Gregorian and Minguo calendars are official in ROC (Taiwan).

Also the Chinese lunar calendar is really a type of solar-lunar calendar, since it tries to have the years follow with the solar calendar years. So similar to how there are leap years in Gregorian calendar, there are "leap months" every now and then (lunar month has no more than 30 days).
