What do I use a subnet for?
Hello, all. I'm new here and I've recently purchased my first VPS from MegaVZ. 5 Euros a year for a pretty good box (I only use it to host NodeJS projects) and I'm happy. I just have a question for anyone who's dealt with subnets on their VPS before: what are they for and if you've used subnets for anything, could you tell me what?
They offered me a /64 IPv6 subnet with 18 quintillion addresses (Christ!), but I don't know what I'd do with it. Wouldn't I need physical access to the VPS for any subnet to be useful?

I made sure to use the search function before asking, but I'm just finding posts about people offering and requesting subnets, not really with one explaining what they'd use one for in a VPS.

But generally it's a topic that comes up once every two months. And honestly I am so fed up of explaining the same things to the clueless "18 quintillion addresses (Christ!)" people, as well as try to fend off those "16x IPv6 should be enough for everybody" providers and provider-wannabes inevitably coming out of the woodwork.
In your case, if nothing else, then simply the customer separation aspect. Websites, services and things like spam filtering will treat one /64 as one singular user. So it's important that every customer has their own, so that their actions don't affect others (if they were in the same /64).
@rm_ IPv6 is useless and a scam to get people to buy from colocrossing.
@rm_ don't look at me, i just like to give out large subnets so people can have cool looking ip's
i know that 99.999999999999999999999999999999999% of a /64 is absolutely pointless, but a lot of customers like to know that there are ip's there, and that they can apply one to each domain and not reply on SNI etc.
