Is there a chance to order second ip on kimsufi?

    AFAIK no.

I really wonder how they pay the energy that the servers use. Can't figure it out.

France. Land of the subsidized nuclear power! Bam! Bam! :-)

Cheap nuclear power + those small machine might use around 3watts (a bit more at full load sure but still not much) - and the goal with this offer is not to make money, hardware has already been paid by precedent customers, abd they have a lot of cheap/free bandwidth being owned by one of the largest french ISP (btw known for his 'war on prices' to make his market share bigger...)

I believe it's a way to get the brand widely known and to find new customers for 'normally priced' servers - and a pretty effective one as this thread suggests... - while still making some little money (and maybe not that little as they own everything & seems like they are renting more than a thousand machines)

  • Yeah, I'd say these servers are better than OVH if you factor in support / customer care.

Impressive; they did see no trouble with that, you never had any remark or anything?

Nuclear power is green energy in France...

Btw, do they only accept CC? Or also PP for this dedi?

PP is only available for customers who payed by PP before they removed it, so only CC acutally.

Everywhere, it is much safer today and does have much lower emissions, does not disturb river ecosystems, does not take a lot of space per TW, etc.
IMO, nuclear is best might not be renewable, but that does not mean it is not green.

You seem to forget the fact that we don't know what to do with the waste, wether it's sending those in somalia or siberia - or burring those deep under our feets. One day or another it will end up in rivers/oceans/agriculturalfields/foodchain...

    :/

I'm afraid that there is no suck thing as 'green' energy (solar panels are poluting to produce, river power fucks up the local ecosystem, motor winds need a lot of copper whose extraction is polluting and currently socialy 'disturbing' to say the least)...

The so called waste is not efficient today to use, But we have 2 parts, the radioactive and the other elements, easy to separate in many ways, just not economical, in a few years people will pay to pick up your nuclear waste, until then, it is costly to store, but storing the radioactive and polluting residue from burning coal is not better.
You are right there is no neutral way tot he environment on extracting energy but i think nuclear is one of the cleanest if done properly.

So if I buy another service with PP before the dedi then I can use PP? Or do you mean it is removed due abuse etc?

If you have the paypal payment option, then use it. Otherwise it's CC only.

  • I can not believe this. The offer was about 2 hours, it got consumed very fast by the greedy people buying blindly (just because they can).

Now, the greedy people wonder why are they being called by the provider, as to confirm their cancellation of an extremely rare offer.

This world is simply infinite in possibilities and it never ceases to amaze me.

  • I'm surprised at how many people are bitching because they didn't buy when the offer was there. "greedy people" - so you did get one? Some of us just checked this site, read the post and bought a few servers that are now in good use, nothing greedy about being in the right place, right time!

Well now they'll just open it up again after enough people cancel. From each person's perspective, it is beneficial to take up the server, because if they don't, they lose the chance to. Can't blame them for making rational decisions.

It's ironic one gets pissed and called others "greedy" just because he missed the opportunity to join the "greedy people list"

  • That's why online.net should charge setup fee or ask for a year in advance prepayment, as well as limit to one server per account. I doubt they are making much money out of it anyway, they should at least try to maximize the number of customers it will attract. Having one or two guys hoard a bunch of servers just because they can or to resell them for profit, does no good neither to online.net, neither to the community.

The setup fee would be way more than the box and they know they wouldn't see as many sales. I personally don't think they should limit it one per person. Many people bought these up to turn around and resell them and they probably expected exactly that. They get paid whether a customer buys one or a hundred. Anyone who is hoarding them and not using them will likely cancel when they realize they're just pissing money away. As far as resellers, I actually bought one from @AutoSnipe to use for a couple months and try it out and I'm pretty happy with the price he charged me. Very fair deal even through a reseller.

I think it does a ton of good for online.net, even if I didn't go through them to get mine I've had fun setting up the box and the network speeds are killer compared to my kimsufi. And I'm sure there are plenty of us just waiting patiently for the Kidicherie deal to spring up so we can snatch some more.
