Compiling kernel on OpenVZ node

Can I compile a kernel on my own on a VPS running under OpenVZ?
On one VPS I have 2.6.32-042stab092.3 running under Debian 7.
When I look at the OpenVZ-Wiki, there are newer version of the kernel (http://openvz.org/Download/kernel/) sources ready to download.

Can I just download them and follow the building instructions (http://wiki.openvz.org/Kernel_build)?

I never ever have build a kernel on my own, so maybe my question is a little bit stupid..
