on one of my vps'es i cannot get awstats to work. I initially installled the vps with tuxlite, everything fine. Somehow my awstats got screwed and it doesn't update anymore
manually running the script in /etc/cron.d/awstats
www-data /usr/share/awstats/tools/update.sh

gets me this on all domains:

Error while processing /etc/awstats/awstats.xxx.net.conf

Create/Update database for config "/etc/awstats/awstats.xxx.net.conf" by AWStats version 7.0 (build 1.971)
From data in log file "/home/sander/domains/xxx.net/logs/access.log"...
Phase 1 : First bypass old records, searching new record...
Searching new records from beginning of log file...
Phase 2 : Now process new records (Flush history on disk after 20000 hosts)...
Error: Couldn't open file "/home/sander/domains/xxx.net/awstats/.data/awstats092014.xxx.net.tmp.13239" for write: Permission denied
Setup ('/etc/awstats/awstats.xxx.net.conf' file, web server or permissions) may be wrong.
Check config file, permissions and AWStats documentation (in 'docs' directory).

anyone know what is wrong?
I removed every domain and added it again with the tuxlite script, then recovered only the public_html dir
but still nothing
/home/sander/domains/xxx.net/awstats/.data/awstats092014.xxx.net.tmp.13239 doesn't exist
