    Try to change putty settings for this session:

    Terminal > Keyboard > The Function keys and keypad  --> linux
    
    Window > Translation > Character set --> UTF-8
    
    Connection > Data > Terminal-type string --> linux

    no :/ I tried all suggestions but it didn't work. But it only affects my.bandwagon/xvmlab vps

  • For what it's worth, I ran into that thing even after setting locale and UTF8 encoding, but switching from dialog to whiptail resolved the issue. No idea why, either.

    You know what.. I did actually change my locales to GB utf8 the other week

    @trexos and charles, what do you guys have for locales -a?

    en_GB.utf8
