Because you could store the .torrent files in just a few megs ;)

Unless you're the star in it and then...well...we probably don't want it on our servers... :D

Yeah, I get enough emails from young women of questionable chastity upset and "shocked" to find their pictures of indiscretion all over a chanboard, don't need any more of that >_<

@miTgiB said: @Jacob said: I am syncing hourly backups now.

That is just overkikll, while nobody likes these events, they do happen, but it is no reason to panic if you have a reasonable backup strategy in place. Maybe you can just run replication to a remote MySQL server, as if everyone were to kneejerk to hourly backups, how much will that degrade node performance :(

From the first page but still wanted to point them out. hourly backups are not overkill if you have important data stored on it. Even if it's not important hourly backups shouldn't kill a server. Just use something that copies changes like rsync or rdiff-backup. Also don't always run it at :00 every hour because that's what most people are going to do. Instead pick a random minute somewhere in that hour. Go to random.org to get a truely random number if you want and make your cron entry:

    48 * * * * /root/backup-script.sh

    I think I'll use:

    47 * * * * /root/backup-script.sh

-Most of the time lowendtalk people yelling with me for why my English bad? but here no one care about data loose? That's different! I thought BuyVM clients will ask this questions to them? I guess no one here to just wast there money or time or business?? Do you?

It wasn't a fran up or something where it was our bad that the box got nuked or that a box got rooted/wiped/etc. The nodes crashed at 11:15PM, by just after midnight I had everything FSCKing and by 4AM I had a damage report that I was passing around IRC.

By 8AM we had an official statement with a full break down of what happened and new VM's mass provisioned. By mid afternoon we had data recoveries already happening and many people have reported that they got what they needed and have been very happy.

How many budget hosts can recover 500GB+ of data in lost+found on a single node and have a 95% success rate in users getting almost all of their data back? Granted, 52/58/41 didn't go as smoothly but people have been getting restores as they ask.

I could name some other hosts that had a complete melt down from a FSCK and simply went 'welp, we arent spending anymore time on this node so please restore from your own backups'

Where did we drop the ball?

@iwebhostu Stop trolling, have you had a look through this thread? I'll still host with BuyVM any day than your crappy weird host.

BuyVM care about their clients and have clearly gone through a lot of effort to recover their customers data, rather than just write it all off. I'll be ordering a server from them when they get more stock in.

@Francisco Everything you guys have done has been much appreciated by the community.

Aaa what about downtime they got? And how could any one VERY HAPPY AFTER SUCH DOWNTIME AND ALMOST DATA LOOSE - I didn't understand. Anyway, Could you explain the reason of your node crash?

  • AsadAsad Member

He explained it in the first post/page.

Read the first post in this thread? It's a full copy/paste of the email.

They're happy we're giving a hoot about their data and spent all weekend working at it? Honestly, there are threads on WHT about nodes going down and data being fully lost due to a FSCK/failed component. Hell, even rackspace had a big one last year that was documented. BurstNET had huge FSCKfests during their power outage in Scranton and if the VM wasn't where it should be after the FSCK was done, too bad.

Again, where did we drop the ball on our end?

Is it sad that when I first heard of the data loss the first thing that came to my mind was "Oh great, now I'm going to have to wait even longer until I can get a vps" :)

Haha no not at all, I thought exactly the same thing too :P

  • @AsadHaider So you are saying we don't care about our clients? Tell you something people braking our TOS after that when we caught him read handed - he post negative comments all over the internet -tell me is that fair?

-Is our crappy host caused you any trouble? Did you used our services? How did you say that without trying us? Or you mean to say 200+ people allover the world who choose only us are STUPID! Did you see our services cost- You think people who paying that are fool any you are the only SMART HERE?

Yes. Fran keeps trying to find new ways to improve our products and impress our customers... when we can't keep stock on the table. Sure, we can add new things to BuyVM+ and reinforce the whole "you get so much free space" thing. But Franny, we have 0 stock, and I have people begging me for dates and times on when they can order. Franny, stock... stock... starks...

What are you talking about? Your weird site and posts in the other thread say a lot about you and your company. I've checked your site out and some of the prices are ridiculously overpriced. If this had happened to you, would you have gone through the same effort to recover back your clients data or simply just written it off?

  • Francisco, Dilt = is every one represent a 1 site here? All from BuyVM? OR All these users operate by 1 Guy? I'm just asking??? Do I put my whole sales team here too? Where is the Mod - Is that allowed here?

@Francisco, Dilt - I understand FSCK issue. But I wants to know this is very possible happen with anyone as Rackspace start clouding for no more FSCK or any data loose for power cut. I don't know what BurstNET did. But what you guys going to do to prevent this problem? DOn't tell me it also possible happen again in future - do this? tell me I love to know :)

We're all different people, I'm not sure why we can't all be a part of this? It should be obvious given how different each of us talk. I got my franglish in place where as Aldryic & Dilt speak amurican.

@iwebhostu said: Rackspace start clouding for no more FSCK or any data loose for power cut.

No. Rackspace's VM's are just KVM/XEN based VM's with local storage. Their big file storage system might be 'cloud', but their VM's are only cloud in the sense that you can up/down size your VM.

@iwebhostu said: DOn't tell me it also possible happen again in future - do this? tell me I love to know :)

It can and does happen to everyone. What we can do is make sure we have no faulty power strips and that happens tomorrow. We're also increasing the free backup space we give to every customer just so they can put it to better use. I already put in a rather decent sized order for drives just for this project.

This is the first time this has happened to us in the 4 - 5 years we've run Frantech.

Read: http://www.iwebhostu.com/SLA.pdf -We have everything written. No Hiding!

Prices are not ridiculous.. It's reasonable as possible, we are not selling cheap VPS or we are not any irresponsible company we take money which wrath it.

@iwebhostu said: we are not selling cheap VPS

So what are you doing here again?

  • @Oliver Currently saying hi to everyone. Future Plan selling normal VPS or offer coupons and all so can people of LET - understand A European company is only worth it to sell anything online that's not right. There is FAR better options for them.

I can't even begin to understand how anyone could be upset with BuyVM after the way they handled this. Shit, I haven't even gotten my important data back yet, and I'm in the best of moods.

After this weekend, I'm convinced BuyVM is the best of the best, and chances are I'll never go with another provider.

  • FranciscoFrancisco Top Host, Host Rep, Veteran

Thanks for the kind words manma.

We're working out what we can.

Thankfully after some tons of digging I found yomero's CT on node27 and he got recovered fully.

Hopefully I'm next :) I'm just gonna go to bed and hope for the best in the morning. That seems to have worked pretty well for me in the past.

  • @iwebhostu and you wonder why you have no customers.

You seem to suffer from super prick syndrome.

  • I think @iwebhostu should be banned.
