IPXcore VPS Review - (Great Service)

Well hey guys,

I've been meaning to get round to doing these reviews for a long time, finally I've set time aside to do so. I haven't seen many reviews of IPXcore's service, and I personally thought that they deserve more to be honest. So lets crack on with it! So far there have been some major improvements, namely the datacenter move and lifting of network speed limitations. It's also interesting to note, they delayed their physical moving of servers due to clients asking for more time to migrate the IP's.

IPXcore has been around for a while, providing VPS and hosting services since, I believe since 2011, and Damian (and now phxadam, his partner) has been active on LET for a few months too which is a good sign. I'm currently on their Bronze plan which has 256MB "guaranteed" RAM, on OpenVZ with 20GB disk. Apart from stating the obvious, the node I'm on seems to have 2 x Dual-Core AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 2216, and access to all 4 cores. They also use OpenVZ with vSwap.

All the good signs are there, SSL on the clients area. They used to be using Virtualizor, but after getting fed up they transferred to SolusVM seemingly seamlessly (I didn't notice much disruption, at least not for a prolonged period of time, other than that I had to reset my password). All of the templates you would expect are included by default.

Their support is pretty speedy in responding to support tickets. I got a response within around 3 minutes for my rDNS request, which is very good. Only @miTgiB can beat that :P. They seem straight to the point and not beating round the bush with departments and all that rubbish. They also have live support which is "online" a lot of time, which is an extra plus point. The pricing isn't too bad either, they have offers every once in a while from what I've gathered, they seem stable so far. Time will tell, but from what I can see they're in for the long run.

RAM usage with a LMNP stack, nothing to it. As an LMNP stack it performed very nicely.

[root@lithium ~]# free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 256 15 240 0 0 9
-/+ buffers/cache: 6 249
Swap: 64 0 64

VMstat for those who want it with LMNP stack, self-explanatory.

[root@lithium ~]# vmstat
procs -----------memory---------- ---swap-- -----io---- --system-- -----cpu-----
r b swpd free buff cache si so bi bo in cs us sy id wa st

Beancounters for those interested.

    Ping to Google, pretty decent.

    [root@lithium ~]# ping -c 3 google.com
    PING google.com (74.125.224.197) 56(84) bytes of data.

The DD results previously weren't too good, but definately not as bad as others, but that seems to have been changed for the good, it's not insane but it's certainly very good.

Pretty good IOping results, very consistent.

Might as well stick this in too.

The performance has improved greatly over the last few months at IPXcore, I'm sure other customers can testify to that, all of my complaints we're addressed to (I'm not exaggerating here, IO speed and network were my main complaints and they were resolved).

If anyone wants any other benchmarks or test's or opinions feel free to send me a PM and I'll add 'em in.

    +1 Here

I had the tiny one (and no vswap btw) for several months. Always worked wonderfully.
I can't remember if I got that 4 cores btw.

vSwap and the 4 cores were both new additions as far as I know ;)

Indeed, and that's the 'base' # of cores now. Depending on what node, we can offer an 'upgrade' to 8 or 12 cores for free.

@Infinity said: I got a response within around 3 minutes for my rDNS request, which is very good. Only @miTgiB can beat that

Nah, everyone can beat that now, it is available in Solus for IPv4 and Ipv6

    Insane.
So I can consider you later for a gameserver in your location :P

  • InfinityInfinity Member, Host Rep

@mitgib haha yeah, I was talking about support in general, as a matter of fact I only added the 'for my rDNS request' bit in the last minute before posting. ;)
