directupdate.net is not free. Only 60 day trial. I am considering buying it if I can't find a free one.

    How about Linux? ddclient
Did you check your router options? A lot of routers come with built-in dynamic dns udpate client nowadays.

  • I know this guy who installed lots of IP cameras with dyndns for the last 4 years.. he's gonna suicide after may haha

Hi, thanks for the mention darknyan & NameStuff.

As mentioned we are completely free, no hoops to jump through to keep your domains alive.

We have several automated update methods and instruction on the site for:
    linux GUI
    linux cron
    windows-gui
    windows-script
    osx
    osx-homebrew
    pi
    raspbmc
    ec2
    openwrt
    tomatoUSB
    mikrotik
    fritzbox
    android
    pfSense
    GnuDIP.http
    dd-wrt
    allied telesis
    technicolor tg582n

And we keep zero logs. we use Google/Facebook/Reddit as basic oAuth providers and only run a n anonymous Google Analytics's implementation with no ads.

We also have a G+ community for raising issues, submitting update clients.

    QUACK!

Why do you need any client when you can have a cronjob?
Check freedns.afraid.org and you will see there they generate the crotab entry for you with the key, just need to copy/paste the command and it runs every 5 minutes.
They also have scripts, but why bother?
BTW, my isp has own service you can setup on their server for go.ro

edit - as mentioned earlier our Windows client can run as a service

We have clients for both Linux (shell script) and Windows (.NET framework, can run as service) and as usual it's free ;)

May take you up on that, fedup of SPAM mails about DynDNS every 30 days.

    I agree entirely,

Clients differ depending on the OS, in many cases the "client" is just a cron/scheduled command to run, in others its part of piece of network infrastructures firmware.

Either way we try to accommodate as many methods/devices/OS's the ability to autonomously update their DDNS entries.

The people who had dlink routers got free access, is that also coming to an end?

  • MaouniqueMaounique Host Rep, Veteran

I am not sure was free, just integrated in the router, you still need an account as far as I know. Didnt use it though.

yes, we still needed an account but for dlink router owners, there was no need to log into DynDNS every 30 days to maintain it. Once you set it up, you were set for life or that was what we were told.

And now (March 2014) DynDNS has acquired Nettica.

Seems Dyn is on a mission to consume all the Cheap/Free DNS services so they can make them for-pay for-Dyn.

I've used No-IP in the past without problems.
