VPS Server Name

When setting a server name such as "server1.mydomain.com" can you have any name like "sever.usa.com" if you don't own the domain name?

    nope you cannot

  • you can set the hostname as you want,
would you let me know what are you plan ?

Yaar, although some hosts do get shitty about it and will reject if they think you don't own the domain. Basically don't shove server1.google.com in there and you'll probably be ok.

  • I usually use nodomain@{alphanumerical string}.com. Something obscure that would never be registered normally.

Thanks cleared that up for me

If possible, I normally just name it something like testvps or debian without a .com or .net, but that's when the host allows you to name it without a web extension.
