à propos "honest": did you really and honestly believe that their promo back then was and would stay tenable?

Actually, yes. With the caveat that I was fully aware that lifetime rarely means lifetime, in the aspect of my lifetime. I've been burned by MyW, Nexus Bytes, Cloudatcost just mention a few, but then it has been the lifetime of the provider so I cant really say they broke their promise, they held it to the end. I also have lifetime deals that are still running and some of them have hold up for 10-15 years already.

To straight out say "we promise, its lifetime, no raises ever" and 3 years later raise the prices, that's not even trying. Legal? Yeah, might be, don't really care. Complete asshole move? Absolutely!

I respect you and that view of yours, but sorry, in THIS case it IMO was not tenable - nor was their huge (back then) traffic volume that now turns out to become the main rope around their neck here on LET, even really needed, I guess they wouldn't have sold much less if those VPS came with say, "only" 3 or 5 TB/mo.

But (my take) they wanted to enter the LE market with a BIG Bang and and a big splash obviously throwing around BIG numbers and being "the talk of the town".

... while even back then 50 cents/mo was what one paid for a single IP4. OK, not in high volumes but even assuming their cost for an IP was just 10 cents/mo, how could they pay (or cover their cost) for the (not too crappy) hardware, tens of TB per mo. per VPS, and support staff with less than half a dollar or euro a month?

That is so not my problem. If they offer a deal they have to deliver it, not me. My end of the deal was to pay the price we agreed on, and I have no problem upholding that. This is really not rocket science, it's common sense, it's how business agreements have worked since day one.
You should be asking Massivegrid that question. How did you expect to be able to afford those deals when you sold them? I mean anyone with even an ounce of intelligence would ask themselves that question before selling something.

I will simply not accept that it should be considered ok for providers to say whatever they want as marketing and then not deliver it because "sorry, it's not tenable for us". If that's the case, any imbecill can start a company, promise to sell the worlds best vps's for $7 per year and then just not deliver it. I mean it's just marketing, everybody knows that's not true, right?
Where is the limit of what's ok or not? Stretching the truth a bit, a small lie, blatantly just making stuff up?

You know I have a lot of respect for you but I simply can not agree with your stance here. Accepting blatant lies because "it's just marketing" is something I will never ever do.

I expect that MassiveGrid is just trying to get people to renew two years early at the old price before December 1st. Then they will do nothing to improve the service.
    Profit/Scam.

They're going to honor my original server specs. I use about 3-4 tb per month.

"There is discussion on LowEndTalk.com about our plans being migrated in December. Is the bandwidth really being cut to 1tb per month?"

Yes, we do not cut it. By default, the migration will move you to the 1TB plan, which has no additional charges. The new plans have more options available (5TB and 10TB, along with the others). That way, you can upgrade your plan again to options that suit you better. 20TB of bandwidth might be too much for some users, and we are trying to minimize the extra costs affected by this change.

In case you have any more questions, do not hesitate to ask us. Our team remains at your disposal.

"I paid for a 20 tb plan. How can you move me to a 1tb plan?"

You didn't pay. In the old product, the 20 TB did not have any charges. In the new ones, the 20 TB bandwidth is being charged. To ease your transition we move you to the 1 TB that also does not have any charges. If you wish to add more TB of traffic, you can upgrade the plan.

"But I did pay. You sold me a service plan with 20tb of bandwidth, and that should be honored for the length of the service."

We have discussed this with the company’s management, and we will be keeping the 20 TB until the server’s due date. The cost will be reflected in the new recurring price, which will be payable upon renewal.

    We remain at your disposal.

Great, now they discriminate too. If you complain then they will honour the contract.
