@jsg Residential Benchmarker.
needs a new tag, residential deep throater.
just because ur willing to ignore providers malice in hopes u get something worth your initial investment doesnt mean anyone else is willing to ignore the clear lies, and deceit.
Pricing change is bad enough for a "lifetime plan" but specs / resources going down too? 20TB to 1TB this is 5% of the original it's laughable.
"locked prices, no sneaky increases" he didn't just sell a "lifetime" product, he followed it up over months with direct, no confusion confirmation to dozens of people.
(a) the "1 TB" so far is just rumor, as btw is everything beyond than the fact that MG makes changes, including not any longer keeping that product alive beyond the pre-paid period which they already told us they'll respect.
(b) get used to tolerate if someone disagrees with you.
Hey, in the optimal case you even might achieve real adulthood and not try to insult others with whom you disagree.
Again, I do not like MG but expressing one's emotion doesn't change the situation, nor does it help to understand it.
In 2025 I predicted that MassiveGrid will be a massive-SCAM here
https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/comment/4373209/#Comment_4373209
and in 2024 i warned MassiveGrid is not legit here
https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/comment/4189166/#Comment_4189166
So at end of 2026 it turned out to be true. MassiveGrid is a lier, not reliable, and in-short a scam web hosting provider as they sold 3 year LET plans and shutting down the service before the deal ends. This business practice is now quite common on LET. How much more scams we gonna see?
Uhm, let us not turn into liars ourselves! There's plenty to complain about with MG and that deal/VPS, but, as far is known, they are NOT shutting down those VPS/that service before the deal ends!
In fact, not only do they honour those deals but they even upgrade our VPS quite soon. All the whole fuzz is about is the fact that in case one does want to keep that upgraded VPS beyond the 3 (4) years, one will have to pay more. How much will only be known on December 1st.
Btw. and FWIW in case they'll ask for more than max. € 1.50/mo chances are high that I will not take the new deal.
P.S. @MassiveGrid I strongly suggest you follow @rcy026's advice to keep (at least some of) those (crappy but dirt-cheap) nodes alive and offer to renew that original deal!
Gag gag gag gagger alert!
20TB -> 1TB during current term is not modification of plan or downgrade?
Unknown price hike is totally great!
Wow glad to know your eager to renew at anything below 3x the price! Woah your a saint!
I wish you a speedy reconvalescence!
Yes it would be, if true. So far however it's just a rumor.
No, it's not. And probably not even if their planned upgrade turns out to offer us halfway decent VPS. Because nobody (incl. me) likes price hikes.
Stop the BS already! I didn't say I'm eager but willing to pay max triple of what I pay now, IF their upgraded VPS is worth it.
And when it turns our to be the same shit vps, shit service, with half the usage ability and 4x the price, are you gonna come back to this thread to say im an idiot? i'd like to see it.
"BS" while agreeing to exactly what I wrote. Just because you don't like the particular phrase / word I wrote "eager' does not make the statement any less valid.
The problem with democracy is that > 85% of voters are not particularly bright (plus easily remote controllable)
The real problem with democracy is the people that make this world run don't give a F about politics, and we let people like you vote and make an impact.
You're hallucinating. As for your question: no, if the VPS isn't significantly better I'll simply say "thanks no" and turn away.
Whatever, I already wasted more than enough attention on you. In case you want to be taken seriously stop bitching and behave like an adult.
Yet you constantly try to defend them here, instead of waiting, Which will in-fact make you look like a clown when you are wrong.
LET is not the place i'm concerned about being "Serious" think your profile text is a little short pal
Please stop saying that it's just a rumor, it's not confirmed and so on.. There are multiple Massivegrid support answers - including mine which I posted with the exact plan of their actual lineup which we I'll be migrated to - that confirms it.
The only things that we have to wait for are VPS performance and reliability. Bandwidth and price increase are already decided and numbers don't lie.
I guess if I was trying to defend @jsg I'd say he may mean rumor in the sense that it's what they're currently saying, but it's not yet enforced so it may not be written in stone and they might change their mind.
But I think we can all agree, including jsg, that if they proceed to lower form 20 to 1TB of traffic for a pre-paid term, then that's really shitty and even worse than the price increase. A perk of pre-paying is that you want stability of knowing that price increases etc aren't going to affect you until your next renewal (this includes spec-downgrades IMO). I guess in some cases it has to, like if a provider is shutting down a location for example, but in this case it doesn't seem to me that they're forced to downgrade the specs from 20 to 1TB at all. Just something they feel like doing.
Has anyone asked for a refund for the remaining period? If they refuse this then yes, I think it could be considered a scam.
What gets to me the most however is downgrading specs and calling it an upgrade. I think they'd get more respect if they were honest about not being able to offer this anymore than to try to portray downgrading the specs as an upgrade. It just makes everyone more angry for no reason.
are they nasdaq listed? i mean look at their office addresses, probably rent went up and that's why they need to save $$$

I think this shows where we differ, you are way more pragmatic and look at it more in a legal and logic way, while for me a promise actually means something.
This is not the first time a provider have slipped out of lifetime promises by simply ending the product and calling it something else. Technically that might be legal and yes, I see the logic in it. However, in my book it is still a fucking scam.
"The product you bought no longer exists so our promise is no longer valid, here is something identical that costs a lot more." Fuck that, it is not ok.
If someone tells me straight up "this is lifetime, it is forever, we will never change it" then I would naturally interpret that as being something not limited to a few years, and of course MG is completely aware that that is how it is interpreted. Discussing pre-paid periods and replacing a service with something else is just smokescreens to get out of the promise, and everyone knows that.
The product is shit, I think nobody disagrees there, but I bought two shitty vps for a certain price that I was promised was forever and would never change. I want my shitty vps's for the price I was promised, because that was the deal we both agreed to. If they lose money on it so be it, it was their deal and they offered it, now live with it. That's kind of the fundamental thing about promises, you are supposed to keep them even if it becomes difficult or inconvenient.
Legally they are most likely not breaking any laws or rules, and yes, there is a logic in what they are saying that is undeniable. But everyone knows that they do this to be able to break a promise and legal or not, I do not do businesses with people that do not stand by their word.
https://lowendbox.com/blog/massivegrid-when-the-lifetime-price-guarantee-turns-out-to-not-be-quite-so-lifetime/
That’s too bad.
I mean it in the sense of "just hear say and/or unreliable" due to e.g. conclusion quite likely inconsistent, plus anyway not officially confirmed..
I'm not sure about the latter, but yes monthly traffic volume being downgradet from 20 TB to 1 TB would be really shitty.
But again, we do not know that yet, it's just a rumour currently-
And from what is known so far prices are NOT increased during the pre-paid term.
Question of perspective and details. From what is known so far only one spec might be downgraded albeit an important one for some, not "the specs".
From what is known so far hardware seems to indeed be upgraded and/or node occupation seems to become lower.
Whatever in detail, if the result is a significantly better performing VPS that actually is usable it would be justified to call it an upgrade.
Besides, from their perspective putting a significant amount of money into their hardware/infrastructure wrt to "our" servers is an upgrade.
All those who dislike and/or are disppointed by MG, give @raindog308 the "thanks" clicks he deserves for posting a quite biased and one-sided LEB article that should please you!
Thanks for looking at my post in a reasonable way. And sorry (sincerely) for my response and core message: Anyone who took that "promise" seriously acted, pardon me, idiotically and much of the anger against MG now IMO actually is a projection of anger about oneself (idiotically believing in what highly likely was fairy tale).
Please note that I don't mean this as an insult!
You see, I fully agree with the stance "if you make a promise you MUST hold it" (except for force majeur) - but I personally think that that stance only is valid between persons.
Many (if not most) companies exist for exactly one purpose, to make profit, period. To expect marketing "promises" to be held IMO simply is idiotic; I take them as "we try, really" at best.
I got that and understand it and I strongly suggested to MG to keep at least some of those (current) nodes alive!
But to stay honest, I didn't expect them to do that for "keeping a promise" but rather because it's a way for them to minimize damage for themselves. Because that is how those companies tick. They don't give a flying fuck about promises (i.e. basically slanted marketing in their view), but about reputation damage they do care.
Perfectly acceptable.
à propos "honest": did you really and honestly believe that their promo back then was and would stay tenable?
The most important thing is that they are blaming the hardware and power but they are actually limiting BW on EXISTING plans while leaving the RAM and disk unchanged, for example. This is what smells for me.
gagging
I don't entirely agree. Let's consider these scenarios:
(1) You sign up for a year and in the middle of the contract, the price is raised. This is a hard foul in my mind because the provider is violating the contract.
(2) You sign up for a year. Provider honors the price for that term. There is no promise rates won't go up. After 1 year, you find that renewing service will be at a higher rate. I have no problem with this.
(3) You sign up for a year and the provider promises lifetime price protection, and that the price is "locked in forever". This is stupid of the company to do, but it's hard to fault the consumer here.
I think it's the fact that they were so emphatic - "guarantee", "locked in forever", etc.
Personally, if I was an MG consumer, I would ride out my term and then make an independent judgement at the end of it about whether the new price is a good deal because I'm not emotional about such things. Either (a) I'm delighted with the service and will pay a little more rather than risk a bad experience elsewhere, or (b) I'm not delighted, in which case there are tons of alternatives I can choose from.
But I can understand people being irate because MG made a promise.
So multiple answers with the same information to different users requests, provided by official MG support in clear words without option of misunderstanding, officially written in their ticketing system and in our mailboxes, not by a random voice call. All of this you think it's inconsistent, unreliable and not officially confirmed?
As I said we can discuss about different server hardware/stability or if MG behavior is legit, but doubt about bandwidth reduction at this point, it’s not credible.
But anyway, we'll just have to wait and see.
I dont care about how emphatic they were, price was locked forever and guaranteed. Why they still have their provider tag not revoked?
But that's not what happened. What happened is that they raise the price after the contract period ends. (Yeah I know "but they promised life-time, yada yada ...")
Maybe, even likely.
That's what I plan to do as well. (with slight disagreement, in particular that I am not delighted by their service).
I of course can understand that too, but to understand neither means to agree nor to consider correct.
Anyway re my comment on your LEB article: From an article author I expect a non-biased and complete view.
I think you're confusing "emphatic" with "empathic". I am saying the exact same thing you are.
Look, we have two issues here:
1. Legal issue, contract not being respected, the BW limitation;
2. Price increase while promises have been made those are locked.
For the second issue there is a debate, whether it was a contract breach or not, I tend to say no, if it were, then the contract would have been made for 99 years or something like that with yearly (or biennially, triennially whatever) payments. It is, therefore, just a shitty move and false advertising.
However, for no 1. that is a clear breach of contract. There are no two ways about it.
Actually, yes. With the caveat that I was fully aware that lifetime rarely means lifetime, in the aspect of my lifetime. I've been burned by MyW, Nexus Bytes, Cloudatcost just mention a few, but then it has been the lifetime of the provider so I cant really say they broke their promise, they held it to the end. I also have lifetime deals that are still running and some of them have hold up for 10-15 years already.
To straight out say "we promise, its lifetime, no raises ever" and 3 years later raise the prices, that's not even trying. Legal? Yeah, might be, don't really care. Complete asshole move? Absolutely!
I respect you and that view of yours, but sorry, in THIS case it IMO was not tenable - nor was their huge (back then) traffic volume that now turns out to become the main rope around their neck here on LET, even really needed, I guess they wouldn't have sold much less if those VPS came with say, "only" 3 or 5 TB/mo.
But (my take) they wanted to enter the LE market with a BIG Bang and and a big splash obviously throwing around BIG numbers and being "the talk of the town".
... while even back then 50 cents/mo was what one paid for a single IP4. OK, not in high volumes but even assuming their cost for an IP was just 10 cents/mo, how could they pay (or cover their cost) for the (not too crappy) hardware, tens of TB per mo. per VPS, and support staff with less than half a dollar or euro a month?
i just want to know if @averagedatahoarder bought any of these 17 cents a year units for the 20tb/mo traffic each and if so what he thinks of these shenanigans!
It is funny, as I pointed out, that they blame it on the rain and everything else, not the BW costs, but they limit NOTHING ELSE than the BW as I understand it, in a breach of contract (services already paid for and still under the old terms):
