  • For Navidrome, that spec should be fine for a personal library, as long as the database stays on faster storage and the music itself lives on the larger HDD. The initial scan can be the heavy part, especially with a big collection, so I would let it finish scanning before judging performance. If a 500 GB plan at around $15/year is hard to find in stock, it may also be worth checking whether a smaller VPS plus a separate storage add-on works out cheaper in practice, and keeping a second copy of the library somewhere else since a single storage VPS is still a single point of failure.

  • hah your funny, as much as id like to say go for it I probably wouldnt

Is chunkserve not reliable? I've seen a lot of negative comments about deluxhost but not so much about chunk.

That's exactly what I've been looking for these past few weeks, I found it on GreenCloud and HostDZire, but I'll wait until Black Friday; maybe someone else will offer an annual HDD contract for VPS backups.

they have lost their rep as slow but reliable over the past few months sadly. and there are plenty of comments on chunkserves own threads, ive been down for over 3 months now lmao. Its supposedly just a 1 man team on the dot com side which gave them a lot of grace/understanding but theres a limit to it.

  • One thing for 1 vCPU: transcoding is what will hurt, so have your clients play the original files (or just FLAC/MP3 you're fine streaming) and Navidrome itself stays pretty light. Also worth setting the scan schedule to something like hourly or manual on an HDD box, so it isn't walking 500 GB all the time.

  • Self-hosting music has never been worth it, the public DB's are an absolute mess.

Buy a cheap subscription from an online market for 1-2 year, simple

Weird I been on NL-01 node, 326 days uptime had network issues maybe once

Things were fine initially for myself and many others but if youve seen the comments on the threads most of the people on the virtualizor nodes have had issues. Which is why they were being moved over to the other. (in my case ive been ghosted for a while now lmao)
