Why has NO hosting provider stepped in to capture this $100M+ market?

    • Asks why no one here goes for the high end market
    • Acts entitled AF
    • Tries to get a free VPS from FOSSVPS without even having read the rules, then tries to i-am-very-important around the rules despite barely having posted.
    • Why do you need a free VPS when you apparently shit money to make shit slop; buy some used nVidia, it'll save you money in the long run. And in the meantime perhaps learn to read - both the room and actual text.

EDIT: Of fucking course it's a Nodeseek user, why did I even bother.

  • Somebody on this has said that Claude does not care about DC IPs :#

Oh and btw, a "reverse whitelist" is actually a common thing, it's called a blacklist.

Now as far as Claude, Gemini, Grok goes. I use a "DC IP" at all times and non of them have issues.

I also exclusively use data center IPs for Claude Code and have had no issues so far. They have my legit details and credit card, but I wouldn't let any AI harness run on a computer that has any of my personal data or logins on it. An agent has already used my private Claude login email in a User Agent without permission, so there's no way I'd run it on a personal device and risk it getting even more creative.

If they ever ban me for using DC IPs I'll appeal and let you all know how it goes, but I've been running it for months on a VPS, and I'm not in a country known for distilling their models, so I'm not particularly worried about it.

@baoweise what exactly are you doing with this setup?

  • rcy026rcy026 Member

A $100M market but it consists purely of mjj's trying to bypass the gfw...
Is it just me, or is it pretty obvious why providers does not jump on this "opportunity"?

There is not enough money in the world to convince me to take on that customerbase.

I literally threw $400 down the drain—two of my Claude accounts were permanently nuked without a refund, purely because the AI platform flagged my connection as originating from a Datacenter (IDC) IP during a temporary route switch.

To prove how absurd this situation is, here is my actual monthly breakdown

    • $60/month for a rented US macOS instance (strictly to get a residential IP, but zero network optimization).
    • $16/month for a BandwagonHost (CN2 GIA) VPS just to relay the connection so latency isn't unusable.

I just investigated your slop story in case I need to worry about using DC IPs for my Claude Code sessions, but now I sincerely doubt your accounts got shutdown because of the data center IP.

It's far more likely that the AI identified a user in a restricted region using a highly suspicious setup to access their services in contravention of their ToS, which may have been exposed by your routing mistake, but you certainly aren't using accounts with your own details for this setup so don't act surprised when OpenAI also shuts you down too: https://www.anthropic.com/news/updating-restrictions-of-sales-to-unsupported-regions

If they see enough requests from a specific ip address across multiple accounts they will know what is going on.

Just saying... they dont really block API token usage as much as the normal fixed cost account.

If you really have the budget for it for actual projects, use the API variant and you should be all good.

I got a feeling you are abusing the subscription but hey you probably wont admit it.

that is the point, they spend $200 on a max plan, and push to maybe $20000 value token, that's the reason they got blocked, and seems many Chinese don't understand the promotion regarding the word "unlimited" , it is not real "unlimited", just like hetzner offer 1 Gbps unlimited bandwidth, but if you really push up to 330 TB a month, they will find any excuse to kick you out

I get the impression that neither of you has ever purchased a Claude subscription.

Claude offers a terminal-based development tool that can be accessed from within a VPS—effectively bypassing restrictions in China. However, paying for a subscription requires the use of a remote device, such as a Windows or macOS machine.

LOL you're rich, so why not just use API; your problems concerning IP will be gone; unless you're breaching ToS in other ways. Your attempts at saving money "even though you're rich" are actually causing you to lose money as you candidly revealed in your OP.

I use Codex CLI mostly via a VPS, and that VPS is not even on the same continent as I am.

What the hell is kaputt that the ai clowns don't push as much slop as any possible?

OTOH why the hell would I care, when in fact I see a double advantage?
Because the ai clowns driving paying users away boils down to

    • (a) the ai clowns losing even more money -> bubble will burst sooner (hurray)
    • (b) less slop dumped on us (hurray)

I literally had to ask an AI what "MJJ" even means—turns out it's just niche forum slang for cheap VPS bargain hunters.

We don't waste our time learning internet acronyms for $5 hosting deals.

That means you have a serious gap in your knowledge man, those forums are where you learn the basics, you must start there then graduate.

You have to be able to walk before you can run.

You believe you are very advanced but apparently you are not.

No wonder you are having such trouble. Now, leave what you are doing now and learn the basics first, then resume the work you're trying to do now.

I believe the costs are for his entire team not just for him. They were surely violating the rules.

  • @baoweise why not do this yourself? you can get resis from $0.30/GB traffic and LLMs are mostly text so cheap. get a virtual card, etc. ez
