Here is Google's English translation of what you said in Chinese: "There are actually a lot of Chinese users here, but they rarely post. It's great to see a fellow compatriot. Even though I'm not in China right now, I hope more Chinese users can connect and chat with users from different regions around the world."

I agree with what you said! However, from the LET Rules: "Our language of discussion is English. This is solely because the moderators all speak English and we can't moderate non-English text, and non-moderatable posts obviously have a huge potential for problems. Please post in English."

I always am really glad to see you and your wonderful threads like "100 Chinese New Year Greetings (For When You Don’t Know What to Say!)" So I really don't want you to get in trouble here by posting in another language besides English. Maybe my posting the translation might help!

Thanks again very much! Best wishes!

Of course, since this is directed at the original poster, I used Chinese—please don't worry about it. :D

  • What would be the best VPS/VPN to get that would unlock geo-restrictions of BiliBili content for someone outside the Mainland? I am aware there are some apps that enable this function but I don't trust using them.

Yuck, typical experience with chinese companies!

I just looked at a few and only one offered an english site, but didn't like my (perfectly valid and working fine) email address, so FY, alibaba!
All others were chinese only that is, weird glyph gibberish for me.

Sad because I want to try out and like chinese products but they seem to just not care about Westerners. Oh well ...

Yeah, i think they (alibaba cloud) only accept official email address like gmail, outlook and icloud. Domoin name email is not supported. I think if you need privacy, icloud is the best choice.

I've read from other comments China has more consumer friendly rules to refunds etc that western companies do not. Maybe customer is always right in China?

Yes, in China, the law dictates that merchant interests must give way to consumer rights, so consumers here have it pretty great. If a business acts in bad faith, ignores consumer complaints, or sells products that fall short of advertised claims, consumers can demand up to 10 times compensation. However, judging by my experience buying multiple overseas VPS servers, foreign providers mostly rely on unfair, take-it-or-leave-it terms. In China, agreeing to a seller's terms during a purchase is legally void if those terms violate statutory laws.

hello, I dont have any heirloom chickens that have premiums more than $20, cause i' m still a beginner in vps forrum, as you can see from the monitor in my signature. I joined mainly to chat with VPS lovers from other countries, learn more along the way, and practice my English

They get away with this usually because it requires some form of legal action to get any form of remediation, which doesn't add up financially/effort-wise for lots of people to even try to pursue, beyond a legal letter.

You can use a PayPal dispute to get your money back. But please treat it as a last resort, once you open a dispute, the seller has to pay a fee for it. That means the relationship is basically beyond repair. Also, too many disputes will hurt your account reputation.

I saw your post on Nodeseek asking for a Linvveo Ryzen 9950X 2C2G VPS. I happen to have one of these in Texas, sponsored by Linveo. It runs NetBSD.

This fine, fast VPS follows NetBSD-current, which the VPS compiles from source code about twice a week, mostly in the morning and early afternoon while you probably might be sleeping. Compiling takes about 3 or 4 hours plus about 3 reboots. So I use the VPS about only 8 hours a week, perhaps mostly when you are sleeping.

If you might want a free account on this VPS, we could talk about it, either here or on your Nodeseek thread, or some other way such as email to the address on my profiles.

An alternative might be just to buy one of these VPSes directly from Linveo. They seem available here. I don't know whether there are any discount codes running at the moment.

Thanks to Linveo for sponsoring my NetBSD VPS! @lnx <3

    Best wishes!

Sorry, I don't know much about this area. As far as I know, compared to proxies going out of China, the scrutiny on proxies routing back into China is much stricter. So I'd recommend using more official VPN / accelerator services instead. F
or example, I remember NetEase UU Booster offers such service.

  • How difficult it is to buy VPS in mainland China for non-Chinese users? Will such VPS be monitored in terms of what content will be hosted on it?

AFAIK there's very strict KYC (id/passport required with selfie). All websites hosted in China needs to pass the mandatory "BeiAn" (备案), as in having the internet police check your website content, declared it passed, and have a mandatory ICP beian number displayed on every page (usually the footer of the page). Also having a place for anyone to post content anonymously is a big no-no and will get your ICP beian number revoked.

(and if I understand correctly, the beian have to be renewed, but you dont need to get the internet police involved if you are doing something minor, e.g. just adding a page to your blog)

  • @SodaWithoutSparkles said: there's very strict KYC

Ouch, ok no hosting in China for me. Was just curious how things are working in there.

In fact, buy vps from china mainland is easy. There some vps providers do not need KYC. The truly restricted thing is to make a website for public access, which means you website has to complete the ICP filing.

  • @HeavySword said: buy vps from china mainland is easy

Ya I have seen a few providers selling China mainland servers here without KYC. So, these servers will only work in the mainland, right? Or only after passing ICP?

Thanks for your kindness! I think I'll wait and see if any high-performance VPS deals come up during Black Friday.

I am looking for Linveo Ryzen 9950X 2C2G VPS to deploy ai relay service for self-usage. In fact, I've deployed one on a 2C2G China-optimised VPS. The problem is that vps have poor CPU performace, and the price is a bit high because of the optimised return route ($96/Year), As a result, I tried to replace it with a cheaper combo:one low-end vps with optimised return route and one vps with high performance, where the former relays traffic from the latter. However, i've paied for the first vps and the next billing date is still far away,. So it's not urgent.I can patiently wait for a good deal.

    Thanks again for the offer!

You can connect to it via SSH from anywhere in the world, but if you want to run a website on that server, you have to pass ICP filing.

What's the reasoning for this over other providers? Is it something exclusive that they only provide?

  • Welcome to LET! I'm also from mainland China and mostly lurk on NodeSeek too. You are right about the return route — here people usually talk about cores and RAM first, but for us a clean route back to China (CN2 GIA / CU 9929 / CMI) is worth more than extra specs on a congested line. Which return route do you prefer for US or Japan machines?

they sell china-optimized cost-effective vps with well-optimized return route, low latency, large bandwidth, high traffic limit, stable service.
