Hello, i'm a vps lover from china mainland

Hello LET, i'm a host/vps lover from china mainland . i've been fascinated in vps for about several months. I mainly active in nodeseek. Recently, i heard this forum and decide to join to communicate with vps lovers from other country. i' ll try to post in english. But I afraid i have to read with ai translator, because my english reading speed is too slow.

What i feel interested is the difference between the community of vps lovers: lowendtalk and nodeseek. From the latter, what we care the most is the return route from the VPS to China. A vps with well-optimised return route can be sell more than $10/month with only 1 core and 1G RAM.

Ask me anything you want to know.

Can you name a few clean VPS providers in mainland China that also are selling to international customers, accept PayPal, are not expensive, and also have some english speaking support staff?

Oh, and: welcome on LET ;)

Of course, you can use these CDN nodes for TCP ping testing. They originally shared here in nodeseek.

For latency and bandwidth test, we usually use this script. Although the results is shown in Chinese, i think it is easy to understand from the numbers.

Not a mainland china user, but I often use these sites for checking the network conditions in China.

In China, the network is divided between 3 major telco: China Telecom, China Unicom, and China mobile. And the network condition also heavily depend on each province. Each telco had their special premium international routes (e.g. the famous cn2 gia / AS9929 / CMIN2). The international outbound routes are often congested during night peaks (e.g. 18-23 UTC+8). There's also cross-province transit billing and per-province firewall policy, so your latency to one telco's network in one province doesn't necessary translate to the performance in next province (or even next city).

I would say tencent cloud or alibaba cloud. They have international department. At most just use a online dd script to wipe and reinstall a known clean iso.

In fact,i think selling VPS in mainland China is not easy. Because of the law, only a few providers can meet all the requirements and prevent abuse. For VPS in mainland, we usually prefer large providers like aliyun, tencent cloud, huawei cloud. You can try the international station of aliyun. As far as i know, only the international station of aliyun does not need kyc and can use paypal. Of couse, there are a few small VPS providers mentioned in noodseek. But i'm afraid that these providers are less likely to have english speaking support staff and accept paypal for payment.

    Hello @HeavySword!

    Have you eaten yet?

    Welcome to LET, just today!

I am on Nodeseek too, as Not-Oles because when I joined Nodeseek didn't appear to support the underscore I use here.

Years ago I tried learning some Chinese. My teacher was extremely capable and possibly the most widely read person I ever met. But I didn't learn much Chinese. So I am in the same boat as you, trying to use AI to translate when I look at or post on Nodeseek. :)

Using the Chinese method of counting age, I am almost 80. Maybe in my next lifetime, if there is one, I might be able to visit China and see the grave of Xu Shen, the Shuowen Jiezi author.

Meanwhile I do rent a slow, very low end dedicated server in Vint Hill, which is on the East Coast of the United States, not the West Coast. If you want an account on it, we could talk.

If there is any other way I could help you, please feel free to ask. I wish you the best!

    Tom

P.S. Is your sword the heavy kind for which one uses two hands?

Yeah, to some degree, these make buying china optimised vps more interesting. you should choose vps based on the telco you use and the province you are. Basically speaking, it is quite expensive to meet the requirements of all 3 telcos and all provinces. But you can choose vps being excellent in your telco and province, for personal usage like vpn. And the price will be much cheaper. We call these "xx 快乐鸡"(xx happy machine, like China mobile happy machine). Generally, Asia-Pacific area is the home ground of china mobile, and european area is chine unicom's. China telecom optimized route is the most expensive. But the service (delay and speed) is the best.

    Thanks for your warm welcome
    .
It's midnight in China, so i think i should not eat.

Shamefully,i am not know much about Xu Shen. But if one day i come by Henan Province, i can take some photos for you.

    Wish you good health!

Welcome, welcome. Do you know why your compatriots are so aggressive and demanding when it comes to VPS buying?

One reason is the Great Firewall (GFW): we need vps to set up a VPN to access access the open internet. Another reason is to access AI services like chatgpt and claude. And a essential reason, we have so many population. Besides, as far as i know, someone from nodeseek buying VPS on purpose to make money (buyers are willing to pay extra money for excellent and cost-effective vps, the premium can be up to almost $300)

My question was a bit different. I understand the reason why they are buying it but I do not understand why they are so aggressive and entitled.

I've read from other comments China has more consumer friendly rules to refunds etc that western companies do not. Maybe customer is always right in China?

i have no idea. Maybe the reason is overseas vps service are closer to shady industries like cryptocurrency, cyber attack and scam. It takes all sorts. But i think most of mjjs is friendly.

In china, if you buy stuff from the internet. We have a policy called 7-day no-reason refund, which means you can get your money back without any reason (of course you should not use the goods and return them). But as far as i know, on the other hand,Visa and Mastercard issued by Chinese banks hardly support chargebacks for unused services. so i think It's a mixed bag.

Yuck, typical experience with chinese companies!

I just looked at a few and only one offered an english site, but didn't like my (perfectly valid and working fine) email address, so FY, alibaba!
All others were chinese only that is, weird glyph gibberish for me.

Sad because I want to try out and like chinese products but they seem to just not care about Westerners. Oh well ...
