SparkyOS based on ARCH and running on an USB Flash Drive

If someone is interested, SparkyLinux released its SparkyOS roling Image based on Arch with 7.2.11 Linux Kernel and XFCE Desktop + AUR and YAY.

It runs on a USB Flash drive. The 10GB image is packed in a 3GB zip and needs to be flashed on the Drive before booting.

A debian based image should come soon.

login credentials:

user: sparky
password: sparky
root -> use sudo
USB disk 16 GB or bigger is required.

  • Can you summarize wtf is it?
    I mean, why should we use it, instead of Debian.

    Real Arch users spend 6 hours building their own USB image

    You can fully use it without installation, upgrade kernel, run everywhere.

    So it's an usb image which will make me guess nothing is encrypted? I will also guess it doesn't support secureboot without one importing their own custom cert (if not already) and then signing everything manually... Though, what happens if you pull the usb out while it's running? Is it like tails or is it like a typical livecd/installing to external media where things will just error out?

    Yeah, I little biased for external OS/images when one can accomplish the same thing by taking a regular distro installer and pointing it at a flash/external drive (at least last I checked, none had a problem being installed to external storage)
