Very stable, long term, small vps at a reasonable cost?

So, i am looking for a smaller vps (2 cores, 4gb ram, 30gb nvme) or something similar, located in EU.

It is very important for me that uptime on this, is very close to perfect. Bandwidth wont really be much, and i prefer EU.

Should i simply go with ovh, netcup, bero or something else here? Give me your tips! Uptime and stability is key here. This will run a critical application.

What made you add bero to the other list of hosts? Are they generally known to be of good quality? never seen them mentioned in the same list as ovh and netcup before.

I'd be looking for Greencloud if I were in your shoes.

  • Too late, you can't get that anymore.

    stable, long term, reasonable cost

    Pick any two

Check if AWS or Google Cloud free tiers work for you. Even if not, they aren't too terribly priced at the lowest tiers with low bandwidth needs. Vultr and DigitalOcean also worth a glance.

Leaseweb is B2B only but good value and generally very, very stable.

Hetzner if they have their lower tier in stock but that's rare these days.

Lately I've had good experiences with Gigahost.no (VPS and dedicated). Norway isn't EU but it's EEA, so maybe works for you. They had stability problems a while back but it's been very stable in the last 6-12 months or so.

If you're OK with Switzerland, I am quite sure Nine.ch would also meet stability requirement. Pricey, though.

This is very informative. Thank you!

Ive been using bero-host without to much issues for some private projects. They deliver insane performance for your money, and Andreas have made me a few custom servers at great pricing in the past.

However, i read all over the place that network have been dropping there from time to time, random node restarts and so on. Still have a couple personal servers there, but i am honestly a little scared to put something that needs good uptime there at the moment.

Ovh is always a option - However they seem to be sold out all over EU for vps at the moment.

Gigahost is not a option for me, due to personal reasons.

Our plans might be of interest: https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/221258/from-2-25-mo-10-gbps-kvm-vps-los-angeles-new-jersey-miami-london-frankfurt

I can offer you a free NVMe upgrade - not a problem.

I would recommend the €8 (2c4gb) one by @Computebox. Have not seen any provider here that e.g. is applying important patches faster, network uses mostly an old well-connected ASN (both in Mölln/Hamburg and in Bremen, even if those ASNs differ) and machines are super fast.

But yes: it is a small provider that is doing great for the last two years - so you would have to hope that it stays that way.

If you do not want a provider that small but larger and established I would go with Netcup as next choice if you do not need support. Support seems to be super slow at Netcup, cannot tell, as i never used the support.

And I would stay out of OVH VPS if you want uptime, stability or isolated networks, esp. stay out of local zone vps products by OVH. Esp. the latter ones are not fit for production workloads/stability requirements. (OVH dedis, even Kimsufi are a different story).

But one thing: if this will run a critical application like you say, you should never ever consider running it on one vps/system. Do at least a green/blue or other HA approach, preferably with two different providers.
