CloudCone VPS: 2 Reinstalls, 4 Support Reps, 9 Hours Waiting for an IPv4 Change

yuqingyuqing Member

TL;DR: Bought a CloudCone promo VPS. It was Dead On Arrival (DOA). After 2 reinstalls (1 by me 1 by them) and being passed around by 4 different support reps, a rep finally asked if I wanted to change my IPv4. I said yes immediately. That was 9 hours ago😰 Still no new IP, no reply😮‍💨😮‍💨

The Full Story:

I’m a regular user who just wanted a cheap box to play around with. I’m not here to bash CloudCone; I just want my VPS to be reachable. But this ticket ( #6240527 ) has turned into a "Waiting Simulator"

Here is the timeline (GMT+8):

· Oct 20, 11:11 PM: Opened the ticket. The instance was completely unreachable from the start (all ports timeout). No IPv4 inside the VNC. I did one OS reinstall myself, no luck
· Oct 21, 11:34 AM: After being asked by the 2nd rep to do another reinstall (which they did on their end), they confirmed the issue persisted and said they'd check with the networking team😅
· Oct 21, 12:45 PM: Rep #3 (Prashant) took over and said, "I will update you once I have more information"😅
· Oct 21, 3:23 PM: Rep #4 (Jaden) finally asked if I wanted to change my IPv4 address😭😭 I replied within minutes: "Yes, please do it and let me know the new IP."
· Now: It's been 9h. Complete silence😅

My current situation
I have been extremely cooperative. I provided detailed troubleshooting info, and I agreed to their reinstall. Now I'm just waiting for a basic IPv4 change that they proposed.

I don't want to cancel or ask for a refund; I actually want to use this server. I'm just stuck.

@CloudCone Could someone please escalate this?

  1. Is the IPv4 change actually being processed? What is the new IP?
  2. If changing the IP doesn't fix the node routing issue, can we just migrate the instance to a different node?

I'm starting to feel like a broken NPC waiting for my quest update. Any help from the community or CloudCone would be appreciated

This is my first time buying a VPS, and running into this issue is so frustrating 😮‍💨 I’m really upset 😭 I admit I got tempted by the cheap promotional price. I have no idea what to do. I heard people here are helpful, so I signed up just to make this post and ask for help 🥺

  • It only takes a little digging through the community to see that CloudCone has plenty of issues. So why did you choose them?

Welcome to LowEndSupport! Your estimated support ticket wait time has just doubled

Most of the issues I see posted here are related to IPv4 and networking. I guess people are more likely to post when something goes wrong than when everything is working fine. There are always things to improve, but I think the overall picture is a bit different from what you see in community posts.

Sometimes the VM's network configuration can get messed up, for example, if the config file is only partially written during heavy deployment loads. This is more likely with traditional disk mounting methods, which we're planning to move away from soon. ;)

IP changes go into a queue, and we currently have a few pending due to region-specific IP blocks. These can be checked using tools like ping.pe.

I checked the ticket, and it was replied to pretty quickly. It's now pending an IP change, which should be processed in order. 🙂
