Pail – A native S3 cross platform desktop client written in Go, no webview
I keep a couple of buckets on R2 and a self-hosted S3 compatible object storage.
So: Pail. Desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux, plus a pail CLI. Go, single binary, no Electron, no telemetry, doesn't call home for updates. MIT.

The part I actually care about: the app and the CLI read the same config directory and the same keychain entry. Add the account once in the GUI, then pail ls, pail cp and pail sync --job nightly work from a terminal or a cron job with the same credentials. Not a GUI plus a separately configured CLI.
On "why a desktop app and not a web UI": fair question and my answer is weak. I run it on my laptop, it dials out to whichever endpoint the account has, there's no daemon to keep alive and no port to expose. If you'd rather have a web UI in front of this, that's reasonable, it's just not what I built.
You can look at it without an account: pail-desktop --demo starts an in-memory S3 server inside the process. Nothing leaves the machine. The integration tests run against the same thing.
Install is a zip or tar.gz from GitHub Releases. No packages, no brew tap yet. https://github.com/DejavuMoe/Pail

this is vibe coding with basic common sense, well done. nothing to complain about on to next thread
Completely
Gud shit.
Stop vibe coding
nope~
just for fun
Nothing exploitable, over explained nothing.
Simple useful app, with key unique points he focused on. that is good vibe code first one on forum i said that too.
Thanks. I originally wanted to find an S3-compatible API management tool for myself that was "good enough," but couldn't find one that was lightweight, clean, and functional enough, so I built one.
He missed the opportunity to vibe code an alternative to an established commercial solution and charging nearly the same amount for said commercial solution. (ahmm adminbolt)
Does it have an SSH client? Everything vibe-coded needs an SSH client.
Don't worry, that comment was not to you
I feel that it will be difficult to commercialize a simple application that can be easily made like this. Since it can meet some of my needs, it would be great if it is open source and can be used by everyone.
I'm just playing and hope to have fun haha
it has a pail cli and shares a set of encrypted S3 vendor credentials with pail desktop. My temporary idea is to hand him over to the AI agent to operate the object bucket.
Correct, even though most commercial devs are using AI to some extent these days. I guess we see new vibecoded apps daily because people are hoping to ride the train very quickly.
Good approach. I vibe code exactly with this approach.
vibe coded a rclone gui with only s3 protocol support? But why?
Exactly this! Vibecoding with some taste at least
Time to release SlopPanel on github
@DejavuMoe curious, what framework did you use for GUI?
https://github.com/egoist/mygo
Mh.. a vibe-coded thing I can't be mad about.
Not yet another hosting panel clone but a locally run, and actually useful tool.
v0.3.3 released. https://github.com/DejavuMoe/Pail/releases/tag/v0.3.3
Most of the features are already very stable now, with very low resource usage (idle ≤60MB). Everything is going well, and going forward it will only enter the maintenance and vulnerability patching phase.
neat!
how many files did you test this on? do a sync, compile linux kernel, sync again and see if the number of files match.
Probably less than 10k small files, have a try and feedback.
use your AI to do this.
You asked this, so why should they do this for you? O.o
When I was previously optimizing performance (RAM and CPU usage), I tested with AI on just under 10k small local files (web fonts, text, documents, images); that should be fine.
However, files in larger numbers and sizes have not yet been fully tested. Maybe I’ll run a local test over the weekend using the cheaper DeepSeek v4.1flash 10.17.
because I'm not a beta tester? there's reddit for advertising hobby projects. I expected more here than vibe-coded crap, but maybe that's my mistake.
As mentioned before, this is just a hobby/side project.
It originally only served my own needs for managing S3-compatible storage, but now some of our company's salespeople (we're a small company and can't afford Cyberduck / S3 Browser Pro) are also using Pail.
If there are bugs, I'll do my best to fix them, but I'm under no obligation to test anything for anyone. Also, it is completely open source: no tracking, no forced updates, no telemetry.
If you'd like, feel free to fork or contribute. It's MIT-licensed, with almost no restrictions.
Also, don't bring personal toxicity into the community. I admit there's a lot of AI slop out there these days (mine may be too).
But doing your best to build a product, and if it can benefit others besides satisfying your own needs, that's of course the best outcome.
That's all. Also, it's just for fun.
The UI seems decent.
The project is really cool.
But lately, with this amount of hacking, I'm very suspicious of open-source GitHub projects. Having an infected package or a malicious build is very dangerous.
Especially since those who frequent this forum have sensitive keys on their machines. This would be an excellent environment to target these users.
I don't want to harm the project of the poster's author, just to warn them and perhaps have tools to prove that the project is secure.
