New member, mostly here for the billing/payments side of hosting

Hi all,

Long time reader, just got my account approved. I work on the payments side of things, mostly crypto, so a lot of what I deal with day to day is how smaller hosts and VPN folks take money from customers who don't want to (or can't) use cards.

Curious how people here handle it. If you run a small host, do you take crypto at all? Do you go direct to a wallet, use a gateway, or skip it because of the hassle? What breaks most often: underpaid invoices, wrong network, refunds?

Happy to share what I've seen work and what doesn't. Mainly here to learn though, this forum has been a goldmine for years.

Every time you pay Bitcoin on-chain, a kid dies, because the energy required to purify drinking water for the kid is diverted to confirming your transaction.
That being said, the appearance of Lightning network has alleviated the energy consumption problem.

@MannDude has the best crypto setup: he runs a self-hosted crypto node that accepts payments into his own wallets, which are then used to pay his suppliers directly in crypto.
@Calin has the worst crypto setup: he relies on a third party gateway that promises to convert crypto into Romanian lei, but a large amount of money was lost between the gateway and the bank, which resulted in his downfall from this forum.
