Looking for: 20-64 GB RAM — KVM VPS or Dedicated Server (200 GB+ SSD, EU preferred), $15-35/mo

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for hardware for a internal dev environment: containerized Node.js services, Docker, a few background jobs, Postgres/Redis. Nothing public-facing, no heavy traffic, but several containers run at the same time, so RAM matters more to me than CPU.

I'm open to either a KVM VPS or a dedicated/root server and will take whichever offers the better value.

Option A — KVM VPS

Virtualization: KVM only (no OpenVZ/LXC, no shared kernel)
RAM: 20 GB minimum, 32 GB preferred, 64 GB welcome if it fits the budget
Disk: 200 GB+ SSD, NVMe would be nice
CPU: 4+ vCores, fair-share is fine, I'm not heavily CPU-bound
Network: 1 Gbps port, 1 TB+ monthly transfer (unmetered also fine)
IPv4: one dedicated IPv4 required; IPv6 /64 is a plus
OS: Debian 12 or Ubuntu 24.04, root access, console/rescue available

Option B — Dedicated / root server

RAM: 20 GB minimum, 32 GB preferred, 64 GB welcome (older-gen Xeon, Epyc or i7 is fine)
Disk: 200 GB+ SSD; 2x SSD or hardware RAID is a plus but not required
CPU: 4+ physical cores
Network: 1 Gbps port, 10 TB+ or unmetered
IPv4: 1+ IPv4, IPv6 /64 a plus
Remote management: IPMI/iDRAC/KVM-over-IP or at least a rescue system
Debian 12 installable; I do the rest myself

Location EU preferred (AT/DE/NL/FI) for latency; US/intl acceptable if the offer is clearly better value.

Budget and terms

$15-35/month depending on the actual specs; for a dedicated server with 40 GB+ and real SSD storage I can go to the upper end
Starting monthly; I'll prepay annually if the annual price is genuinely better
The renewal price must be the regular price, not a first-year promo. Please state the renewal price explicitly if different to the initial price.
Payment: PayPal or card. Crypto possible but prefer card/pp.

Please include in your offer

Which option (VPS or dedicated), price per month and per year, plus the renewal price
Exact specs: CPU model (dedicated) or vCores (VPS), RAM, disk size and type (NVMe/SATA/HDD, RAID level), bandwidth, port speed
Datacenter location, test IP and a download test file
How long you've been operating, and a status page if you have one
Upgrade path for RAM/disk without a reinstall or migration
Setup time, and refund/trial policy
For dedicated offers: hardware age, disk health (SMART), replacement/guarantee policy, whether IPMI is included, and whether it's your own hardware or a reseller
Any fair-use limits I should know about (CPU steal, IOPS caps, etc.)

Not needed: control panel, Windows license, DDoS protection, SLA.

Best offers here in the thread or by PM. Thanks.

    Thanks for the mention @averagedatahoarder!

    Hey @loggableim,

this would be a KVM VPS from us, since our XEON line is sold out right now. The EPYC 32G matches your list closely, with 8 vCores on AMD EPYC (Zen 3 Milan, shared), 32 GB ECC DDR4 RAM, 200 GB NVMe in RAID 1, one IPv4 and an IPv6 /64 for 24.99€/mo. Paid for 12 months it's 22.49€/mo, so 269.88€ for the year. These are our regular prices and not a first-year promo, so you renew at the same price.

Traffic is unmetered with no monthly cap, on a 10 Gbps shared port. We have one location, SkyLink Datacenter in Eygelshoven, Netherlands, right at the German border near Aachen. We've been running since 2019, and our status page is at status.skrime.eu.

RAM and disk upgrades go through a ticket. There's no refund, but you can get a 3-day test server through our support. Fair use is simple, the cores and the port are shared, so nobody runs at 100% CPU or full line speed around the clock. PayPal and card both work.

    Hey @loggableim,

We can offer you a special KVM VPS configuration on our own infrastructure in Frankfurt, Germany.

    Here are the specs:

    • KVM virtualization (fully isolated VM, not OpenVZ or LXC)
    • 6 shared vCPU
    • 20GB dedicated DDR5 RAM, allocated to your VM
    • 300GB NVMe SSD
    • 1Gbps port with unmetered traffic
    • 1 dedicated IPv4 + IPv6
    • Full root access

    Special price: $25/month or $290/year.

These are recurring prices, not just a first-term promotion.

Your RAM and storage are allocated to your own KVM virtual machine. CPU cores are shared, but you get a fully isolated environment with no shared container kernel.

We accept PayPal, credit/debit cards, and cryptocurrency.

If you're interested, just open a support ticket and mention this LowEndTalk thread so we can arrange the custom configuration.

    @loggableim

We do have a 10.10 ongoing campaign where you get 10GB VPS for $10/month or $100/year across 10 different locations!

We can always combine the deal into a 20GB VPS for $20/month or $200/year.

Do go through the campaign link and let me know the location you are interested in and we can take things forward.

To answer a few of your other points...

    • We have been in business for over 20 years now
    • You can refer to our status page at https://status.smokyhosts.com/
    • Payment mode: Paypal/Credit/Debit cards
    • No refund or trial. But you can always order for 1 month, test out our services and upgrade to yearly and we will offer you the same benefit of yearly cost when you upgrade
    • No fair-use policy on any of the 10.10 deal VPS
  • Our workload first, so you can judge whether your box fits at all

We're building a self-managed dev/test host for AI agent tooling — nothing customer-facing, no mail, no SLA, no reseller ambitions. What actually runs on it:

12–16 long-lived Node/Python services, mostly idle, bursty on single threads
headless Chromium sessions, which is what eats RAM: on our current 8 GB box, 77 Chromium processes sit at ~7.6 GB RSS
git working trees, occasional builds, a couple of containers
    Debian 12, self-managed

We need roughly 24–32 GB RAM to be comfortable, NVMe (not SAS, not HDD), EU location, monthly billing. Budget is 25–35 EUR/month. We test before we commit.

To the VenoCloud rep (@venocloud) — thanks for the offer, it's the most interesting hardware spec in the thread so far (300 GB NVMe + DDR5 at that price is not something you see often). Before ordering I'd like specifics:

Which CPU model sits on that node, and which generation ?
How many vCPUs do you sell per physical core on that node?
Which NVMe Setup, single disk or RAID1, and is there a backup?

Is the monthly term at $25 available to start with, so we can measure for a month before deciding on yearly? We're happy to pay monthly forever; we just don't do 12-month prepay with a host we haven't benchmarked.

Are we allowed to publish the benchmark results in this thread?

To SmokyHosts (@smokyhosts) — the "in business since 2004" part checks out on our side (domain registered December 2004), and the "order a month, upgrade later at the same yearly rate" policy is fairer than most.

    For the 20 GB / $20 configuration I'd need:

Which CPU model, and how many vCPUs per physical core?
Disk: NVMe or SSD, RAID1, how much?
Port speed and traffic — what does "no fair-use policy" mean in practice?

What we've established so far (all prices from the providers' own pages, 21 Oct 2026 — posting them so others can correct us):

    NovaCloud High-End (FFM5, DE) — Ryzen 9 @5.7 GHz host, 6 vCPU / 32 GB DDR5 ECC / 175 GB NVMe, 34.95 EUR, 27.96 after rebate

    Their published Geekbench 6: 3,189 single / 24,567 multi.

    Skrime (NL) — EPYC 7543/7763, 8 vCPU / 32 GB / 200 GB RAID1, 24.99 EUR
    unlimited traffic, orderable.

    NovaCloud Premium (NL EYG1) — EPYC 7543, 5 vCPU / 32 GB / 200 GB, 22.00 EUR; published Geekbench 6 single 1,748.

NovaCloud Standard (FFM2) — "Xeon Gold 6138", published Geekbench 6 single 877. Worth noting: the host spec section on the same page still lists E5-2697 v4.

Contabo Cloud VPS 30 — 8 vCPU / 24 GB / 300 GB, 14.00 EUR incl. VAT, but they state themselves that they run "proven CPU generations" where "CPU is rarely the bottleneck".

OVH VPS-4 — 8 vCore / 24 GB / 200 GB, 23.37 USD, daily backup included, but no CPU model published anywhere.

What we'd like to hear from the community

Has anyone actually measured Geekbench 6 single-core on NovaCloud's High-End line or on OVH's current VPS range?

Provider-published numbers are one thing; a real VM next to real neighbours is another.

NovaCloud advertise 2 TB RAM / 64 threads on their Premium hosts, which arithmetically allows ~64 tenants × 8 vCPU on 64 threads — 8x vCPU-to-thread. Their High-End host (192 GB, 16c/32t) works out to ~1.1x. Anyone with real experience on either side of that?

Are we missing an EU provider in the 24–32 GB, sub-35 EUR, monthly-billing, Zen4/Zen5-class bracket?

Everything cheap we found either sits on old silicon or hides the CPU.

And the honest one: for a Chromium-heavy agent workload, is 20 GB workable with discipline, or is 32 GB the real floor? Which offer would you pick in my spot?

    Hey @loggableim,

your summary of the EPYC 32G is right. One addition, the pool also runs the EPYC 7713, all Zen 3 Milan, and we assign the node.

Since your services burst on single threads, the RYZEN 32G could suit you better. It has 6 vCores on a RYZEN 9 5950X at 4.9 GHz or a 5900X at 4.8 GHz, 32 GB DDR4 RAM, 250 GB NVMe in RAID 1, one IPv4 and an IPv6 /64 for 32.99€/mo, or 29.69€/mo paid for 12 months. That's still Zen 3, but with clearly higher clocks than the EPYC. Our Zen 5 line with the RYZEN 9950X is sold out right now.

Both run monthly with no commitment, and you can switch to the 12-month term at renewal. Since you test before you commit, ask our support for a 3-day test server and run your benchmarks on it. You're welcome to post the results here.

    @loggableim

CPU model and how many vCPUs per physical core completely depends upon which location you plan to host your VPS on, as we have different configurations at different locations, ranging from 16vCPUs to 48vCPUs
Disk also depends on location, you will get minimum SSD or NVMe on RAID 1. We offer HDDs only for storage VPS.
Port speed, all the locations have a minimum of 1Gbps port speed, except Kansas city, which would offer you 10Gbps.

no fair-use policy basically means we will not suddenly suspend your server just because you are continually peaking at 1Gbps or 10Gbps. Your bandwidth is limited by the deal you choose. We do not have unmetered plans under the 10.10 deal. If you need one, we can negotiate a separate upgrade deal for the same.

  • Thanks again @SKRIME / Tom for the test VPSes! Here are results from both (Debian 12). I kept the load moderate and added pauses between tests.

    EPYC 32G (8 vCPU, 24.99€) RYZEN 32G (6 vCPU, 32.99€)
    CPU EPYC 7543 Ryzen 9 5950X
    sysbench cpu 1T / all 3,613 / 25,190 ev/s 4,682 / 25,721 ev/s
    7-Zip 1T / all 3,598 / 29,594 MIPS 5,043 / 28,339 MIPS
    fio seq R / W (1M) 9.2 GB/s / 2.1 GB/s 2.5 GB/s / 689 MB/s
    fio 4k rand R / W 63.7k / 51.3k IOPS 84.8k / 27.7k IOPS
    Download (Hetzner NBG 1GB) 966 Mbit/s 1,054 Mbit/s
    Node.js 50KB page (autocannon c50) 13.4k req/s, p99 8 ms 12.4k req/s, p99 8 ms
Headless browser page load 24 ms avg 12 ms avg

Geekbench 6 wouldn't upload from either box ("internal code 35"), so I used sysbench and 7-Zip instead.

Takeaway: the EPYC plan is the better deal for multi-core and disk-heavy work. The Ryzen clearly wins on single-thread work and browser automation. Both were stable, with no issues during testing. Nice offers!

One question for @Tom / SKRIME: is the bigger AMD line with the Ryzen 9 99xx CPUs going to be restocked soon? That is the one I would be most interested in.
