Jabali Panel – Open Source (GPL) Hosting Control Panel

Hi everyone!

Maybe some of you remember my post back in May. Well, Jabali Panel is now production-ready and has been running on multiple production servers.

Jabali is a free, open-source hosting control panel and a potential alternative to cPanel and DirectAdmin, featuring web hosting, a standalone mail server, DNS, security, backups, and more.

I'm inviting LowEndTalk members to give it a try, test it on their infrastructure, and share their feedback.

Website: https://jabali-panel.com
Demo: https://demo.jabali-panel.com
GitHub: https://github.com/shukiv/jabali-panel

It's free and will always remain free. I'm happy to help anyone who wants to try it!

Maybe, but Jabali is not like the others. Try it, or check the demo. It is a matured control panel that has been worked on for 2 years. I’ve been a sysadmin + developer in hosting for ~30 years. I’ve worked on real production systems and contributed to open-source projects like DTC (Domain Technologie Control).
This project is basically the result of years of experience.

There’s no real pitch or value presented. We are busy. Give us good reasons

  • These are some of the point where jabali shine over others:

    • Modern mail and DNS. It ships the Stalwart mail server (IMAP, JMAP, CalDAV/CardDAV) with single sign-on webmail. PowerDNS with per-domain DNSSEC.
    • 1-click installers (WordPress plus 14 other apps).
    • encrypted, deduplicated backups to S3, B2, SFTP using restic.
    • A WAF with malware scanning (CrowdSec, ClamAV, YARA).
    • per-account resource limits (cgroups v2) and disk quotas.
    • Tenant isolation by design. Every account gets its own Linux user and PHP-FPM pool.
    • SSH runs only inside a sandbox, and a per-user outbound firewall stops a hacked site from spamming or attacking out.
    • The panel itself never runs as root.
    • Self-healing. The panel's database is the source of truth. Every 60 seconds it re-applies the web, PHP, mail, DNS and SSL configuration, so drift and broken configs fix themselves.
    • Docker app marketplace. 44 one-click Docker apps, including Nextcloud, n8n, Odoo, ERPNext, Immich, Vaultwarden, Gitea, Grafana, Plausible and Open WebUI. Each comes with its own domain, SSL, backups and update checks. The admin can install them server-wide, or let customers run their own, isolated with user namespaces.
    • Python apps. Customers can deploy Django, Flask or FastAPI (WSGI or ASGI). The panel builds the virtualenv from requirements.txt and runs gunicorn or uvicorn. nginx serves static files and media directly.
    • Billing-ready. The Automation API covers the whole account lifecycle: create, suspend, change package, reset password, one-click login, usage, terminate. It uses signed requests with scoped, revocable tokens. Admin accounts are out of its reach.

  • A new thread?

  • xvpsxvps Member

It look nice, but primary and slave name server is on the same server. Can't you install two or more servers with the panel and then use them as primary and slave for DNS?

So what, Linus is showing signs of decadence, you should not publicize it.

It's not totally unexpected you know, not truly a shock. I could see that coming.

@jabali Your project lacks an optional installation feature.
This is a major shortcoming; users should not be forced to install components they do not want.

AI assisted "programmers" can be split in several categories, two of those categories deserve special mention:

    1) The alchemists. Previous voodoo copy/paste programmers who never really understood what they were doing feel now (rather unrealistically) great optimism about their prospects. They proudly produce vast amounts of slop and are always eager to share it with anyone who listens. The curent thread is probably an example of that.

    2) The virtuoso artists, or maestros. People who were on top of their game before AI and now feel that despite the natural decadence that comes with age, with lots of help from AI they will still be able to produce good work but on a larger scale. Some of them will be able to fulfill their ambitions but most will fall short.

Guys, even for slop code, this is some effort! Currently I bake small app with codex and I tell you what: it is like fckin small dog trying to bring back huge log. It tries, it generates but it is so shit. At every step inmust correct and then re-correct. Horrible.

And this jabali (in ru language it means ‘fucked’) is pretty complex. A ton of tokens and time poured into generating this.

  • @Levi said: in ru language it means ‘fucked’)

    spelling is different though.

Yeah, Google, Meta, Anthropics developers and practically all the industry moved to vibecoding because they are in decadence. And you right.

Their decadence is old, they were decadent long before AI got us here, not AIs fault.

They are both a consequence and a cause of the decadence of society as a whole.

    The end is nigh.

    Hi, thanks for the feedback!
You can actually choose already, we just haven't documented it well. Fixing that now.

Only the core is always installed: nginx, PHP, MariaDB and the panel. DNS, mail, security, quota, Docker, Python apps, PostgreSQL and the API are all optional.

The installer asks which profile you want (Minimal, Web host, Mail server, Full or Custom). For an unattended install, just list what you want:

    curl -fsSL https://get.jabali-panel.com | sudo JABALI_MODULES=dns,security bash

If you don't choose, you get a lean setup without mail, Docker and the rest. Add --dry-run to see what would be installed first. You can add modules later under Server Settings > Modules.

Good question. Today the panel runs ns1 itself, and ns2 should be a second server: a small plain PowerDNS box, or a free secondary DNS service like Hurricane Electric or BuddyNS. The panel lets that server copy the zones.

The next release (Nov 1) makes this much better. The panel tells the secondary right away when a zone changes, new zones show up there automatically, and you can list up to 16 secondary servers. It also supports a "hidden primary" setup, where only the provider's nameservers answer the public.

Using a second Jabali panel as the slave of the first isn't supported yet. A central DNS setup for several panels is planned, but there's no date for it.

    Ma kore :-)

Well, it might be AI code, but Jabali is not slop. I think slop is where people with almost no knowlage in coding or development are doing half-work, never maintain it, never fix bugs and give you a bad program.
Jabali is not like that. It is a matured control panel that I have been worked on for past 2 years. I’ve been a sysadmin + developer in hosting for ~30 years and I run a web hosting company with more then 400 clients. I’ve worked on real production systems and contributed to open-source projects like DTC (Domain Technologie Control) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_Technologie_Control and contributed to many other projects like Dirvish.
This project is basically the result of many years of experience in the industry and being a programmer since I was 12 years old. I am 48 today :-)

Jabali came from the Spanish word for Warthog, which came from Arabic. Blat. :-)

BTW, meanwhile I did this: https://jabali-panel.com/install/

  • FWIW it's already better than cPanel bloated rip-off, and free.
Also works on Debian and doesn't lock you to RHEL derived distros. Best of luck.

My category is that of someone who refuses to be spied on by machines and actively evades being another mindless cog who does low paid/unpaid work for their owners.

And I've been up to many things, many of them non computer related, I suspect you'll find them of little interest. Now about the computer related stuff that I do, I fear you would find it a bit exotic and of little interest to you so it will be better if I spare you from details.

Don't wanna be mean or anything, but it’s the same AI slop as all the other panels presented here before.

Now clicked through about 30 files, and so far struggle to find a line of code that is written by a human.
