[Looking For] Storage Server: 2x SSD + >=40TB HDD

Hi all,

I'm looking for a solid dedicated storage server for a long-term production backup workload (Proxmox Backup Server / ZFS).

Hardware Requirements

  • Location: Open to any region (US / EU preferred), prioritizing hardware stability and network uptime.
  • Storage:

    • OS / Special vdev: 2x SSD or NVMe (480GB / 500GB / 512GB or higher, configured for ZFS mirror metadata cache).
    • Data Pool: >= 40TB raw HDD capacity (e.g., 2x 20TB, 4x 10TB/12TB, or 8x 8TB).
    • Storage Controller: HBA / IT Mode / JBOD (required for native ZFS pool management).
  • RAM: 64GB DDR4 minimum (96GB+ preferred for ZFS ARC).

  • CPU: Decent multi-core processor (Dual Xeon E5 v3/v4, Xeon Silver/Gold, or equivalent AMD).
  • Network & IPs: 1Gbps unmetered port (or >= 50TB bandwidth/mo on 1G/10G). 1x IPv4 (/29 is a welcome plus).
  • Management: IPMI / iDRAC / KVM over IP included.

Budget & Terms

  • Budget: Around $130 - $180 / month (or EUR equivalent). Willing to stretch up to $200+/month for exceptional setups (e.g., Dell R740xd with 64TB+ storage or 10G/25G uplink).
  • Contract: Long-term deployment. Open to quarterly or semi-annual commitments if that secures a better recurring discount.

If you have matching inventory ready to deploy, please post your offers below or drop me a PM.

Thanks!

    Fair enough! To be honest, I was just too lazy to type out all the specs and formatting, so I dumped my raw notes to AI and let it summarize for me.

    Appreciate the advice though, will keep it natural next time!

  • @xHosts might be able to arrange something for you as well

    "too lazy to type out all the specs and formatting"

    Dude, you are coming to a forum asking for other people to give you help/advice for free. At least put some effort into your initial post if you want people to help you.

    I think there is a misunderstanding here. I'm not here asking for free technical advice or architecture design.

    My backup workload (PBS with ZFS special vdev metadata mirroring) is already well-defined. I posted in the Requests section simply looking for providers with matching hardware inventory within my target budget.

    Using AI to structure and format my exact specs into a clear bulleted list was meant to save everyone's reading time, not disrespect anyone. Peace!

    Thanks man, I genuinely appreciate the perspective!

    I probably worded my previous reply a bit poorly, but I definitely didn't mean to come across as demanding or trying to freeload on advice. I already have a very specific architecture in mind (PBS with ZFS special vdev mirror), and I simply wanted providers to see the exact hardware requirements clearly.

    Still, you made a fair point about community effort. Appreciate the candid feedback and advice, thanks!

  • Actually, you should definitely try out CharityHost. Unparalleled commitment to privacy, security, and uptime with an emphasis on protecting their users' digital rights and privacy. Given their well-known commitment to protect freedom of speech, you can surely host any sort of content you wish on their servers. Although this is not a dedicated server, you will not regret using their SFTP servers!

    Another well-known, very highly respected member of the webhosting community is iHostArt. With storage servers as low as 1 euro per TB (WHMCS says 2 euros per TB Calin please explain!!), they are known far and wide for their commitment to uptime, fast and unmetered network with zero throttling to 69Mbps, and amazing billing system. Just make sure to pay via cryptocurrencies for a fun surprise on billing~

    Haha, nice try! Almost got me with the legendary Calin special and SFTP storage. 😂

    Jokes aside, I definitely need bare-metal root access to run Debian + PBS directly with native ZFS management. Appreciate the humor though!

    Thanks for the offer! That's an impressive setup (especially the 10Gbps unmetered uplink and 12x 8TB storage), but $365/mo is unfortunately way out of my current budget. Appreciate you sharing the specs though!

    10Gbps unmetered dedicated normally costs you $500/mo extra on top.
