There won't be any altering of plans unless it is something that could be considered an improvement or upgrade in terms of resources.
We've never increased anyone's VPS pricing or anything and don't plan to do it.
Some My Private Inbox peaks coming soon:
There will be two types of the "My Private Inbox" service, the first is the free service. This uses our own domain names, and they're inbox only. They can receive but cannot send email (Except to forward mail to your 'real' address). This is suitable for most, to receive one-time codes, verification links, notifications, or just as a general point of contact where you may wish to take the conversation elsewhere. It's free, and if you want to upgrade later with a domain you purchase, awesome.
The other type is "bring your own domain", which will still be mostly designed around being an inbox-first service, but you'll be able to send from it as well. We are not and do not want to be a transactional email company, there will never be features that compete with the likes of MXRoute, NameCrane and others. We're not competing with them, we're doing our own thing.
For the paid, bring your own domain service, we will likely have two outbound options baked in: 1.) Our servers, suitable for inner organization or personal communication. Less reputation and less likely to arrive in the inbox of big email companies, though we'll still try within reason and follow all mail related best practices for deliverability. This is the most private option. 2.) Outbound mail via mail.baby, which we've used for years already. It's a good service, but it gives outbound mail to a 3rd party which we have no control over. Better option for some, and for others not.
Anyhow, some specifics are intentionally left vague right now. I'll show some screenshots in a bit, going to grab a bite first.
Some screenshots. This is all from the free My Private Inbox service. This does not include bringing your domain, you choose one of several work-safe and normal looking domain names for your email address. It's inbox only, you cannot send mail from these addresses. If you want to send mail, you can pay to use your own domain name and unlock the sending capability.
Anyway, all still a work in progress of course. You don't have to tell me that some of the wording is weird or that the UI isn't perfect, I know already. This is just an early preview of whats to come. Ask for updates in a couple of weeks then pass judgement
Inbox:

Webmail prioritized, works with a .onion, I2P and Yggdrasil networks. Can also use your desktop or mobile app of your choice just like with anyone else. Inbox shows verified status based on SPF, DKIM, DMARC and other checks. If it looks suspicious, it's marked as such. If it's a trusted sender and encrypted with your exchanged keys, it's marked as such. UI certainly not finalized, the wall of text in the sidebar will likely be replaced with some snippits and links to KB articles for more details.
Email Reading view:

Ok, you received an email. This is roughly what the page will look like. Plain text, it's the safest option. Most places will send a plain text version of their email. Will probably have an option to view the HTML email if one is sent, but it's not as safe. No embedded tracking elements or invisible pixels can be inserted in plain text emails. Sender health card explains the checks. Full headers are available, default is they're collapsed. If someone emails you their public key you can one-click import it into your key share. Encrypted messages are decrypted on the page when the portal holds your generated key, otherwise handed to your mail program.
Encryption management:

So, mail is already encrypted at rest but end-to-end encryption is abailable on top of the sealing the server already does. Preferred method is importing your own public key, where the private key is on your device for your mail client. Otherwise the portal can generate a new key for you which is kept under your mailbox password. Page also lists keys of people who write to you, imported from their messages. Will allow you to import manually keys of your peers or whatever, right now it relies on them emailing you first but I can now see where that may be an extra step that you don't want.
Spam Settings:

Pretty basic. May later allow you to be more thorough with it. This service is designed for more than just technically minded people so wanted to just offer some safe defaults. Will need a lot of testing/tuning but you'll see three default filtering levels. Can whitelist, can blacklist, the things you'd normally want to be able to do. By default junkmail is wiped every 30 days, but you can change it to every 90 days or just turn it off completely. Junk mail still goes against your total quota / usage so unless you have reason to keep it indefinitely you probably want to purge it every so often.
Mail Forwarding:

Pretty self explanatory from the photo. If you prefer to use your inbox as staging for forwarding, the option exists. You can choose to forward only emails that pass certain criteria or everything.
Data in screenshots is generated/dummy data but functions test and work. It used the real dev/test email account by default so it's blurred out for now just to save the trouble of no-gooders poking around while things are still a work in progress.
daaaamn, this is very good. I do hope it will be crystallized eventually and will serve well over a number of years.
It's gone through several revisions over the years. Finally get to build what I want and not compromise on what was basically some half baked implementation of my vision.
Admittedly, the domain MyPrivateInbox.com expired by mistake. I caught it in the redemption period, but InternetBS is email only support and took a week of back and forth for them to let me pay for it's recovery... Sure as shit, by the time they were ready to manually invoice us it was too late... Sold at auction.
Guy wanted like $2,500 for the domain... Ended up getting it for $650. Expensive lesson learned. Still waiting for it to be pushed to my GoDaddy account, only option for it right now since it was picked up by Afternic or whatever. What a mess. Almost lost the domain dedicated to the project...
Expensive but I hope, once it will be released, people here will support ya. Oh, any idea of price range? I know it is probably too early...
I'll do one lifetime plan for $650 just to break even... Jk.
Pricing undetermined. Availability will all be limited anyway with stock released in short windows just to control growth and measure real usage beyond whatever the first batch of beta testers do. So, 10-20 testers will open my eyes to some issues that may need fixed or things that can be improved. But would rather open to the public after that and release to 100 more... Then close sign ups, wait a month or so... then we'll see where we are. Release it here and there in more manageable spurts.
Pricing for BYO-domain will probably be $12/yr to start because "$1/mo" is easy marketing.
can pencil me in at $12/yr, happy to beta too.
17,76 cult still alive. still using / idling the 1776 vps!
Shut up and take me
Yup, im in.
.
👀
@MannDude 👋
oh I more meant killing off the SKU or something and triggering a nonrenewal. thanks, cool thats good to know
@MannDude Regarding your onion service, it should be using single-hop mode because it's not trying to be hidden. Single-hop mode improves performance and can improve security when the website's real IP doesn't need to be secret. It doesn't reduce client anonymity at all. You'd just add this right under the lines configuring your onion:
Great idea!
what is the answer time for tickets atm?
still waiting for a reply on ticket #1014K09Z5 (5 days without answer)
website does not seem to let me renew my service and its expiring soon.
Nobody there cares about you as customers. He enjoys coding late into the night, but dealing with customers? Not so much. It's pretty obvious.
I never received a response to either of my two support tickets in three months. Someone above even lost their domain because nobody responded to their requests.
The only upside is that if they handle abuse reports the same way, then of course that's pure gold! As long as you don't have any domains hosted there.
Wrong.
Trying to renew a service before the system generates the automated invoice isn't a high priority or service impacting event. That self resolves. I've responded to him some hours ago, I believe.
Other dude didn't lose a domain, registry placed it on legal hold. I'm not in a position to reveal what sort of complaints it was generating, I found them unfounded so took no action, but the registry did. Communication at that point needed to be mostly between those two parties, the one controlling the hold and the one controlling the content generating the complaints.
Most other things waiting are small, not service impacting, etc.
If you've got a service impacting request, please do let me know and I'll take care of it personally. Most stuff flagged for me that requires my access didn't look service impacting. Some general questions, requests for transfers, crypto related stuff, etc.
And yeah, I'm not afraid to admit support isn't what I want it to be. It'll get better, but it's not going to happen overnight. Once the new platform goes live it'll be easier to address everything as I'm building workflow solutions that fix almost all my major annoyances and time related burdens. Onboarding new help right now, a month or two before a platform switch seems shortsighted. To "slow down", since this is an related to growing pains, I've purposely changed payment types accepted and minimum service terms to just slow down the number of orders received.
All of this while running a local startup and being a family man. Responding to this from bed, while I listen to the other half read to the kiddo. I'm working hard, for them, for me, for you ... Results of that will become apparent soon. I promise.
i got that answer quickly after writing here
im surprised that i have to wait for a system invoice 10 days before expiry and can not renew anytime, but thats fine with me. hopefully i do not forget now
Is Incognet down right now? At least the website?
I can't reach:
incognet.io
portal.incognet.io
theispco.com (Not sure if this is still a thing?)
I can reach:
https://as40663.net/
Which says Las Vegas, Miami, and NYC are having issues. The rest are fine.
Loading Looking Glass that seems to hold up. ny-ny-na.lg.as40663.net doesn't even have a A record. Same with mi-fl-na.lg.as40663.net.
Same with br-ch-eu.lg.as40663.net, which is supposed to be up.
(I accidentally posted this in Incognet Kansas City Outage and WHMCS 403 but meant to post it here. Tried to delete my post there.)
Yes https://check-host.net/check-report/54886aa8k9f7
Thanks! I only checked from two points in the PNW. Was starting to wonder if it was (partly) an anycast issue, but it looks like not.
I hope things clear up without too much headache.
I just spammed called his phones and woke @MannDude up. Its almost 4am for him.
All my services appear to be fine tho.
Had to kick the WAF server. (And it's 3AM, not 4AM
)
Anyhow, all is good in the hood.
Great! Glad that's all it was. Bummer about the timing.
Are you actually out of stock in all regions?
My Reverse DNS is not working, and the reverse dns servers that are authoritative for the IP block I'm on don't seem to be responding to DNS queries.
ptr1.as40663.net
ptr2.as40663.net
Incognet seems to have issues, I have some .st domains with them and the nameservers ns.isp.gd and ns.isp.st that they use have not responded for days.
Looks like an anycast issue... Servers up, but routing is messy.
Looking into it now
edit: Yeah, as expected. It's anycast. We rely on BuyVM's anycast network but right now it seems like only New York is responding. Will look into it more.
So, was an anycast issue. Spent a few hours today looking into it more and got some things optimized where before they were not.
Miami POP right now is down for us, waiting to hear back about it. Some private networking issue. Same configs used in the other 3 POPs, works just fine. Did enough prodding and poking to confirm it's not a problem from our side. Seems to have silently failed, I guess I need to figure out a good approach to also testing internal / private network connectivity and alerting when down.
